The Art of a Lie question

The ending. Am I reading it correctly to understand that William was still deceiving with his final letter to Hannah? Since it was delivered after he was dead, was he just continuing his tales & trying to make Hannah believe he really loved her? To me, it reads like it is full of lies. Any input????
