MountainKat | 31805 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though. I will use the team leader as a point of contact if needed.

Remember, it is the team's responsibility to notify the host (me) if a teammate fails to complete the task in a timely manner or otherwise goes missing! I am not checking all the team threads regularly to notice and may only check when notified a task is complete.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team 11, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 207 comments Hey team! Checking in...

bamaace83 | 1265 comments Hi! Checking in also. Sunflower, I'm Anna and I don't think I've gotten to play with you before. This is going to be a fun group. I'm not good with team names but can probably work on thinking of something this morning. I'll be back to chat more in a bit. I'm trying to get these gazillion challenges updated while listening to an audiobook.

Sunflower Reads | 73 comments Hi team, I'm Sunny. This is my 2nd reading challenge - the bachelor challenge over the summer was my first and I had fun. I'm Canadian in the Eastern Time Zone. Looking forward to reading with you all. 😊

bamaace83 | 1265 comments Oh all of those are good. I think my top ones are Curl Up & Read and Wingin' It Readers.

message 11: by Sunflower Reads (new)

Sunflower Reads | 73 comments I forgot to say I don't want to be the leader. I hope that’s okay. What do you think of Curl Up & Read Between the Lashes... a combo... too long?

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 207 comments It's a little long, but I think it could still work. I like it. What does everyone else think about it...Curl Up & Read Between the Lashes?

I can take the lead if Vicki and Anna aren't interested.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 1075 comments Hey, team, I am here! 😊 Sunflower, it’s very nice to “meet you“! Michelle, I am very happy to have you lead our group and I’m pretty sure Anna will be as well. I think that the name Sunflower came up with is fun, a little bit lengthy but it’s all good so I think we should go for it..

message 14: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1265 comments I say let's go with the team name. Michelle, I don't mind helping with the lead but my times on here can get iffy with work so I don't want to put us behind. Can I back you up and we have like a leader/co-leader situation?

Sunny, it's nice to meet you. I'm in Eastern time zone too. I work Monday-Friday and am off on the weekends. Sometimes, I can hop on at work and sometimes I can't. October/November looks better for me to stay on top of things. You'll soon be addicted to all the reading challenges like we all are.

message 15: by Sunflower Reads (new)

Sunflower Reads | 73 comments It's really nice to meet you all too. 😊 This might only be my second challenge, but Anna, I already feel pretty addicted. 😅 It's fun to read with others, and it's also a nice way to discover books I might not have picked up otherwise. Thank you for the warm welcome. 🤗

That sounds perfect!

Yes, Sunny, it's so easy to get hooked!!

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 207 comments I've requested our name change. 😊

message 19: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments I've updated your team name.

And I deleted those extraneous posts. I usually don't like to do that, but since we haven't started and I am not really tracking yet, it was ok.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 1075 comments Sunny, I just now had the chance to really read this thread more carefully and I see you're from Canada! It is SO gorgeous there! We went to Banff National Park and Jasper National Park a couple summers ago and OMG, it is breathtaking! We stayed in Cairn Banff and loved that quaint little town. And those Rockies are to die for!!!

Where in Canada do you live?

message 21: by Sunflower Reads (new)

Sunflower Reads | 73 comments Thanks so much, Vicki! I’m glad you had such a great time in Banff and Jasper — they really are stunning, and the Rockies never get old! My sister had her bridal party trip in Banff, it’s a special place for our family. Canada has so many beautiful places to explore. I’m in Ontario now, so it’s a different kind of scenery, but still lots of nature to enjoy. 😊

Sunflower Reads | 73 comments I think in the Bachelor Challenge, part of the task was shared the day before, and we could start looking for books early, then finalize our choice once the full task was announced. I was just wondering — will we get an early hint this round too, so we can begin searching? I noticed someone has already selected a book, so I’m curious how that’s working this time!

message 23: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31805 comments I'm here getting caught up with the team threads before things get started tomorrow and I thought I would answer Sunny's question.

No, you don't get any advance explanations for this challenge, but you do have that big long list of potential tasks posted in the signup thread and the Q&A thread. Most of them are pretty self explanatory, but I do give a more complete description of what I am looking for when tasks are assigned.

message 24: by Sunflower Reads (new)

Sunflower Reads | 73 comments Got it, thank you Kat! 🙏🙏🙏

message 25: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1265 comments Thanks for answering. Yeah, we just get a task and read it as fast as we can and then move on to the next. I like this one because we don't have to hunt for books as much and we can work in what we are already planning on reading. I've only been to Toronto in Canada. I do want to visit Ontario at some point.

message 26: by Sunflower Reads (new)

Sunflower Reads | 73 comments So, what hometowns do we have in this group?
The only place I’ve lived that might be a setting in a book is Toronto... not as popular a setting as big cities in the US, I think.

message 27: by Sunflower Reads (new)

Sunflower Reads | 73 comments Anna, I know Toronto is a big city, but it does have the Greenbelt, which is beautiful for hiking and spotting some nature and wildlife. There are so many other lovely places and quaint towns in Ontario —I hope you get to explore them someday too!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 1075 comments I was born in Dallas, TX but I currently live in Manteca. You won't find a book set in Manteca, but there are a ton that are set in California.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 1075 comments First Task - All Teams!

Task 1 - 0. Read a book celebrating October 1st.

This round begins on October 1st. October 1st has much historical significance. In 1890, Yosemite National Part was established. In 1903, the first game of the modern World Series was played. In 1908, the Ford Model T went on sale. And my personal favorite, in 1971 Walt Disney World, ‘The Most Magical Place on Earth’, opened. But I had to narrow the choices down so… In honor of the first game of the World series being played in 1903, read a book that is MPG Sports. This can be a specific sport such as ‘hockey’ or ‘baseball’, or the generic ‘sports’, but either MUST be MPG. OR In honor of the Walt Disney World opening in 1971, read a book that is MPG Magic or MPG Fantasy. Teams decide between the two options.

message 30: by Vicki (last edited 6 hours, 28 min ago) (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 1075 comments I read all of the above. Do we want to read MPG Sports or MPG Fantasy/Magic?

Directions say for us to "decide between the two options" so I would say that means that the second option would be EITHER fantasy or magic. So if one of us reads MPG Magic and someone else reads MPG Fantasy, I think that's OK. We don't have three options.

I know that Anna and I are reading some Fantasy books for another challenge and I also know she loves some sports books (sports romance, I think). But we have an entire month on that challenge, so let's take a "vote" and decide on which genre to read for so we can get the ball rolling.

message 31: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1265 comments I read sports romance books really fast and can most likely have one finished tonight if we do that one. Fantasy depending on the book might take me a couple days. I’m good with the groups choice though.

I’m from a small town in Alabama but the closest city would be Huntsville. There’s probably some books out there in that city but I would have to dig.
