Context: I've decided to start the Cosmere in it's entirety, and have what I feel is a relatively solid reading order based on lots of great YouTube videos and articles on the... highly debatable topic. Here's my issue: I've only read 5 Sanderson books: The Final Empire, The Way of Kings, Tress of the Emerald Sea, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, and Sunlit Man. Obviously I'm all over the place and most of my reading has been the recent secret projects, but I loved each of these completely, and am confident I'm ready to start over and read things in a more logical way (including re-reading these in their respective place in line).
That being said, the only pieces I don't have a solid position for is Wind and Truth, and the Sixth of Dusk. The latter I believe I can put pretty much anywhere before Rhythm of War, but for the 5th SA book, I've seen it put after the Mistborn Era 2 as well as immediately following 4, and occasionally following the secret projects (other than sunlit man which is later).
Anywho, here is my reading order. I'm open to suggestions, but I'm mostly just looking for "correct" placement of Wind and Truth. I also put the other secret projects in what I felt were more comfortable locations, instead of all crammed at the end like most lists show.
1. The Final Empire 2. AU: The Eleventh Metal 3. Well of Ascension 4. The Hero of Ages 5. Elantris 6. AU: The Hope of Elantris 7. AU: The Emperor’s Soul 8. Warbreaker 9. The Way of Kings 10. AU: Shadows for Silence 11. Words of Radiance 12. AU: Edgedancer 13. Oathbringer 14. AU: Sixth of the Dusk??? 15. Dawnshard 16. Rhythm of War 17. Yumi and the Nightmare Painter 18. Alloy of Law 19. Shadows of Self 20. AU: Allomancer Jack 21. The Bands of Mourning 22. AU: Mistborn Secret Histories 23. The Lost Metal 24. Tress of the Emerald Sea 25. Wind and Truth 26. The Sunlit Man 27. Isles of The Emberdark
I read Sunlit Man before Wind and Truth (it hasn't been released then) and it is still enjoyable. I'm not still quite sure if I prefer it or not, but publication order is an option I usually like. Enjoy :)
I think you can read Wind and Truth after you read The Sunlight Man. You will still understand who the main character is, and other things, and it will all come together in Wind and Truth.
