Winter (winter9) | 5012 comments This month we will be reading Weyward by Emilia Hart

This is your space to chat about this month's book selection with other readers. There is no set schedule to follow, and no discussion leader is assigned. Everyone should feel free to post comments, share pertinent articles or interviews, ask questions, share likes or dislikes, etc. Most importantly, enjoy reading together!

This book was nominated by Ania for our monthly theme Superstition.

2019: Under cover of darkness, Kate flees London for ramshackle Weyward Cottage, inherited from a great aunt she barely remembers. With its tumbling ivy and overgrown garden, the cottage is worlds away from the abusive partner who tormented Kate. But she begins to suspect that her great aunt had a secret. One that lurks in the bones of the cottage, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century.

1619: Altha is awaiting trial for the murder of a local farmer who was stampeded to death by his herd. As a girl, Altha’s mother taught her their magic, a kind not rooted in spell casting but in a deep knowledge of the natural world. But unusual women have always been deemed dangerous, and as the evidence for witchcraft is set out against Altha, she knows it will take all of her powers to maintain her freedom.

1942: As World War II rages, Violet is trapped in her family's grand, crumbling estate. Straitjacketed by societal convention, she longs for the robust education her brother receives––and for her mother, long deceased, who was rumored to have gone mad before her death. The only traces Violet has of her are a locket bearing the initial W and the word weyward scratched into the baseboard of her bedroom.

Weaving together the stories of three extraordinary women across five centuries, Emilia Hart's Weyward is an enthralling novel of female resilience and the transformative power of the natural world.

Dolores | 22 comments This is one of over forty books recommended by Facebook friends when I put out a call for books I must read in 2025. I've never read anything by this author, but I love this kind of story and I'm looking forward to reading it with this group.

Kate Smith | 14 comments A book that’s been on TBR list, managed to pick up a copy for £1 in a charity shop. Looking forward to starting this one.

Victoria | 32 comments I’m really looking forward to this book, only recently put it on my to be read list. I have never done a monthly read before but I promised myself when a book I had on my to read list was chosen I’d join in. I probably won’t get to it until middle of the month but it’ll be nice sharing ideas and thoughts with the group.

This is my first group read too. I'm looking forward to it.

JennH | 1256 comments I wasn't familiar with Weyward. But the title and description caught my attention during the October Group Read nominations.

Michelle Boyer | 159 comments This book has been sitting in my BOTM TBR pile (I have so many TBR, I now have separate stacks for them, lol) forever -- I bought it because of the gorgeous cover. And, I've picked it up a few times thinking I'd start it, only to set it back on the pile for something else.

Now -- I have the PERFECT reason to read this! Here we go... turning this into an "assignment" so that I actually get it done.

SarahKat | 6400 comments I'm starting this today. I got it when my sister gifted a few months of BOTM... 2 years ago? Finally picking it up for the group read.

Victoria | 32 comments I’m starting this today, I’m looking forward to the story
