SAME and if I can tell I'm not going to like a book I judge it by it's cover, but sometimes I read it anyway and surprise myself by actually liking it

Mary Keating | 2 comments The cover is an invitation. I'm more likely to pick up a well done intriguing cover.

Breanna Ingersoll (bingbing87) | 21 comments Yeah I do, when browsing its usually the cover that stops me

message 55: by sarah (new)

sarah | 288 comments Yes of course. Presentation is everything in any type of items. I must say tho that we sometimes miss out on the best reads because of this type of thinking. I hate to say it but that’s me.

Jake Stone (jakestonejake096gmailcom) | 1 comments Unfortunately I don't judge a book by it's cover.

KittyLoves2Escape | 76 comments I have🤫

message 58: by Barbie (new)

Barbie Singer | 1 comments Definitely! But a book that I wanted to read recently, based on the cover, really let me down. I had to stop.

KittyLoves2Escape | 76 comments I hate when that happens😩

Kait *ੈ✩‧₊˚ (sunflowerivy) | 11 comments Whilst I try not, a cover is the first impression of a book that you get if you’re just strolling through a bookstore trying to find the next read. So whilst, I try not, I also like to see a cover that looks unique or different then I will read the blurb and decide if I want to buy it.

message 62: by Marion (new)

Marion Löw | 1 comments It depends: if it's by an author I like, then I don't care about the cover. If it's a new author, then yes for romances, if I don't like the guy on the cover at all and I assume that he is as described, then my imagination doesn't help me either. Neutral or drawn covers don't bother me if the blurb fits

message 63: by Beth (new)

Beth Koop | 20 comments Yes - a good cover can draw me in, get me to read the summary of the book. If it’s a book I’ve heard of, the cover probably won’t keep me from getting it, but it could give me pause. I agree with all the comments too about not wanting a shirtless man on the cover!

message 64: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1 comments You bet I do. The cover is very important to me. If I find it appealing, beautiful, or attractive, I'll read the book. If I'm not attracted to the cover, there is no way I'm picking it up. I know it doesn't sound fair to the book and it might be a really good book I'm missing out on, but it could also be a horrible book with a horrible cover and I'm not prepared to take that risk.

message 73: by Sari_reads (new)

Sari_reads | 2 comments Yes i usually do. When im in a bookstore searching for new books it’s the book cover that has to get my attention first. But sometimes even if the cover doesn’t look the best but the story is good i make an exception.

message 77: by ❀ Tia ❀ (new)

❀ Tia ❀ (tiajoanne) | 4 comments Definitely, although I try not to 😅 I've read some books that have had less than great covers yet have been pleasantly surprised by the story, but have also been thoroughly disappointed by the content of some books with lovely, aesthetic covers.

If I'm in a shop and I see book with a gorgeous cover, you can bet that I'm absolutely going to pick it up and check it out. I've found that a lot of fantasy/Romantasy books have the most stunning covers and that really tempts me to add it to my tbr before I even know what the book is about 😂

However, I CANNOT stand covers with real people on them. There's just something about it that I really don't like.

message 78: by Chen (new)

Chen Zhang | 2 comments I'd have to agree—who doesn't?

I recently published a book titled Youth's Inquiry: The Rational Guide to Life's Biggest Questions . To be honest, I'm not entirely sure about the quality of its cover design. What I do know is that when we used an older, even less polished design, sales were really struggling.

While the current cover is an improvement, I'm still working to find the right visual representation that connects with readers and reflects the depth of content inside.

message 79: by East of Reality (new)

East of Reality (tamberleigh) | 13 comments I absolutely judge a book by the cover. For one thing, it helps let me know what genre the book will be, always a plus. A good cover will have me looking at the blurb, a good blurb will make me more likely to buy the book, and interesting ratings make me more likely to read the book.

I've read books that have truly ... atrocious covers that ended up having decent stories. I've read books with gorgeous covers that have me falling asleep. But all the cover has to do is get me looking at the blurb.

That said, I agree with others here that I don't buy books with real people on them unless it's a memoir, and I hate books with movie poster covers. I'm also not a fan of generic half naked dude with muscles. It's such a boring and overused cover that I don't even look at the titles of those.

Georgia 🫧 (georgialeeg) | 15 comments Uhhh ABSOLUTELY.

message 81: by Megan (new)

Megan (megmez) | 38 comments Yes. Book covers are designed to reflect the genre, theme and tone of the book. I'm definitely put off if it looks like some AI slop made on Canva. Some I read because the cover is so beautiful.

message 82: by Vuseor (new)

Vuseor | 2 comments yes, if the author has the passion, they will put passion in the story, in the characters and in the visuals. I understand the first time authors will have low quality covers but i can tell when there’s been effort and when there’s just been an canvas made with minimal effort.

message 83: by Manas (new)

Manas Pandey (themanaspandey) | 4 comments Well, books can have multiple covers but have the same content, so to judge them by cover feels shallow and very moody. It's like Judging a person by which dress they wore or what make-up they applied.

So, I don't.
