CHANGE IN SCHEDULE.
We will NOT as a group be reading The Seven Mysteries of Life. Ignore posts about it below. But you may, of course, choose to read chapters in it on your own.

We WILL be reading The Physics of God by Joseph Selbie. Nina will facilitate.

The Physics of God: How the Deepest Theories of Science Explain Religion and How the Deepest Truths of Religion Explain Science"

Laurie Pollack | 63 comments Nina, it does not look as if it is realistic for me to finish reading Seven Mysteries in 2 months. I am a constant reader but am reading multiple books at once. this one is very rich with wonderful material but
it is like reading an encyclopedia.

in addition
It is not available on e-book except by downloading in PDF via a Bahai site but I to avoid free downloads files for safety purposes and copyright. although maybe it can be found in libraries on e-book? but I am not a library member so do not know.

And due to a slight vision issue that only affects my reading small print (which is why I prefer e-books), I
would find reading the entire 700 page paper book a source of eye strain due to rhe font size as this book has a small font and the lines are close together.

also regardless of format or font
I often get into a need-to-finish mode where I will rush through a really large book and skim or skip. this book deserves better.

I wonder if it would be ok if I located a few chapters that really spoke to me and read these rather than tried to read the whole thing.

OR
if there are certain sections that you feel are crucial to the point of the book let me know and I will focus on these.

this book reallt deserves to be the subject of a study group of its own where it can be read more slowly perhaps a chapter a month.

what I have read has awakened my feeling of wonder about nature.

Nina Dickinson | 9 comments Laurie, and any others who struggle with the length of this book,

I have not read this before, so we will all be entering into this discussion with limited background in it.

Please, allow yourself and one another grace and follow first impressions for this reading. I will prepare some general questions after we meet to discuss the Rohr book.

Laurie Pollack | 63 comments Nina. I will do as you suggest. what I have decided to do is to read sections that intrigue me and bookmark any that inspires wonder about nature in me. and there are a lot of sections like that. I might also allow synchronicity to lead me to a passage by opening at random much as I would draw a random card from an inspiration deck.
this is a rich and powerful book

This is a huge book, 700pp. and oversize - I just received it and am intimidated by it, despite the fact that I always read at least an hour a day, read for and attend 3-4 book clubs per month, and teach literature online.

I hope that people won't decide not to read it because of the size, and suggest that we do as Laurie is doing, and read the sections in it that most appeal to us. Kudos though to everyone who chooses to read the entire book in 6 weeks.

HOWEVER, we might also want to consider changing the October book selection to a book that focuses on spirituality in relation to science but it easier to read. I may ask others in the book selection committee about this. One possibility: Joseph Selbie's The Physics of God. I mentioned that in our recommendations discussion thread.

Amit Goswami, a Hindu and quantum physicist, has written many books combining quantum physics with a very active spirituality. He wrote the foreword to this book, The Physics of God. I first became a fan of his years ago when I saw his film, The Quantum Activist, and then read his related book, How Quantum Activism Can Save Civilization: A Few People Can Change Human Evolution.

The film is now online at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipRa5...

Related to our current book, he wrote:
Physics of the Soul: The Quantum Book of Living, Dying, Reincarnation, and Immortality
https://www.amazon.com/Physics-Soul-Q...

I bought that years ago but still haven't read it (though I may do so soon). If you like The Physics of God, you may want to read this one.

Some of this other books, all with excellent reviews:
God Is Not Dead: What Quantum Physics Tells Us about Our Origins and How We Should Live

The Quantum Doctor (and its follow-up, Quantum Integrative Medicine)

The Visionary Window: A Quantum Physicist's Guide to Enlightenment

and this title by him, which I just discovered and find particularly intriguing: Quantum Politics: Saving Democracy

Laurie Pollack | 63 comments Tracy I just installed an app called Kinnu that offers what they call microlearning: small quick "bites" of info. and I was doing some reading there on astronomy. the beginning of the universe is amazing. In the book I am in the chapter where he says that they can't reconcile two different theories and make them mesh. it is astonishing how little we still know.

Is anyone taking Joseph Selbie's online course on the Physics of God
https://theshiftnetwork.com/course/01...
which just started today? I'm curious about what it's like.

I went to his introduction on it and found the sound of his voice monotone that I can't keep my attention on him. Plus he focused on the basics of a kind of holistic spirituality rather than really explaining the connection with quantum physics. But that was only about a 40 minute introduction....

I would like to know some of the highlights of the course from anyone who's taking it.
