Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2425 comments I unwittingly started book 1 yesterday. Good time to get active again in this group

Nirkatze | 21672 comments Whoo! I have in-person BRs for book on next Sat and the Friday after that. Two in a row! I'll definitely be starting over with #1 this week.

Tonari no Emily (emlfem) | 5121 comments Isn't there like a graphic audio version of this somewhere? Has anyone tried it out?

Sarah E B ʚ♡ɞ (saraheb2011) | 27 comments Planning on rereading since my library got book 1 on audiobook (and i also bought the ebook since it was on sale) before the year is out, hopefully

I think Ann-Marie did the graphic audio...

Nirkatze | 21672 comments Soudbooth Theater has what they call "Audio Immersion Tunnel" version of book 1--they call it Season 1:

I don't think the other books have been adapted yet. I ordered a copy of it when I backed the kickstarter for 2&3, but it won't arrive for probably a year... in time for the next reread, maybe...

Oh, and if anyone wants to check out the PPT or kahoot for the presentation I did a couple weeks ago, here they are:

I bought it and it was solid but not that much better than the OG version. The best parts were radio style commercials included sporadically, when I heard the one for Quasar I LOL'd and rewound it to listen again a few times. There were some sound effects and I am not mad I bought it at all <3

Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2425 comments ha. 30% in and convinced Bruce Campbell should be playing Carl or would've like 30 years ago.

Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2425 comments I decided that having my real picture in there isn't always the best idea.

Nirkatze | 21672 comments Jeff Hays took inspiration for Carl's voice from Patrick Warburton. :)

Just googled Bruce Campbell--Evil Dead actor? That sounds pretty spot on too, lol.

Ann-Marie | 5633 comments So yeah I started the first today and I am listening to the graphic audio version again and the way the AI announcements and such is definitely more animated and there are sound effects interspersed as well. Jeff Hays still voices Carl and Donut, that would have been a dealbreaker for me. You can download a free sample from Soundbooth to get an idea of the differences if you like.

I liked your presentations. How did they go in class?

Sarah E B ʚ♡ɞ (saraheb2011) | 27 comments for anyone that doesn't know there is a webtoon version of the book 1 that has been out for a while. if that is your thing.

Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2425 comments Brock Sampson works well too (Patrick Wharburton)

Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2425 comments I'm using the regular audio and a kindle book for my read. The graphic audio sounds like a fun idea.

The class went well. Though I definitely was geeking out to a non-geek crowd. They were good sports about it though.

Ann-Marie | 5633 comments You can get the first audio on Soundbooth for $6.99 through 11/7. It is a bit more chaotic than the OG version but very enjoyable :)

Nirkatze | 21672 comments I wonder if that's in conjunction with the Kickstarter campaigns?

No they are having a sale on all Soundbooth audios less than 3 hours or something, Jeff Hays got "kidnapped" and the sale is running through 11/7 lol

Rob (priam_agrivar) | 2425 comments Onto Book 2 for me. The first book was enjoyable, good fun, and enough to continue. Favorite moments or highlights elude me at the moment, but very relatable as a gamer myself.

Nirkatze | 21672 comments I read book 1 Friday and then jumped into book 2 Saturday. It's so nice to be able to zoom through these... though I anticipate major book hangovers when we get to #7.

Rereading--this is my 3rd or 4th time I think? I think I did twice on audio before switching to eye and audio--and every. single. time. I swear I pick out more details and information... like, I don't think the characters actually find out what scutelliphily is until book 5, but there are signs of it pretty early on in book 2. There's so many details that come into play later, it's so much fun.

I especially am enjoying the way the world outside the dungeon grows. The universe makes me think of Scalzi's Old Man's War crossed with Hitchhiker's Guide--crowded universe, limited real estate and resources, and the only way they're kept from major war is the entertainment channels. But then there's a LOT of inter-politicking.

I also really love seeing Donut grow, and watching as Carl gets more layers. The people they meet in the dungeon--crawlers, former crawlers, and NPCs are also really interesting, and I love seeing their slowly unveiled backstories. In book two--(view spoiler)
