Sarah (adayinmymediocrelife) | 64 comments Ever since I finished Zodiac Academy back in April, I have been in a terrible reading slump. Prior to this I was reading anywhere from 5 to 8 books a month and now my max is 2 per month. I really want to get back to it, because I need to disassociate from the world we live in, but I dont know what to do to get back into it. PLEASE HELP!!

Romantasy Ruined Me Cherice | 70 comments Book slumps happen! What helps me is switching up tropes enemies-to-lovers, slow burn, forbidden love, love triangle, bonded mates, reverse harem until something clicks. A few recs by vibe:

Reverse harem (long series):Her Feral Beasts  by E.P. Bali

Dragons: Fourth Wing

Fae: Quicksilver

Forbidden love:Shield of Sparrow

Vampires:Filthy Rich vampires

High-spice fantasy:A Court of Sugar and Spice find out why everyone loves Sugar Plum

A couple habits keep me out of slumps: add Goodreads friends and peek at what they’re reading, skim other readers’ reviews, and try reading multiple books at once. I’ll finish one, start a new B&N pick, read a couple chapters of a slower book, and sometimes crack open something fresh for 100 pages whatever feels fun. Also, follow your favorite authors, if you loved one of their books, their backlist often hits the spot. Reading is supposed to be fun, and keeping it playful is how I avoid slumps.

I also think it helps to read through short stories you may find interesting. If I'm in a slump, a long book feels daunting, but a story around 100-200 pages feels more manageable.

Best of luck with getting out of your slump

I have been sticking to mostly Romantasy so I think I will do this a switch up to something new to see if that will kickstart something for me. Thank you for the idea.

I get that. And when you have to force it, it feels like work instead of enjoyment. Thats about where I am at too.

I found a couple of shorter reads and I think it is helping. That was a very helpful recommendation. Thank you for that!!
