   OUT OF LUX

ONGOING ⠀PLOT

This is where we’ll keep track of the ongoing plot as we progress it so
everyone is on the same page whether your characters are actively in
the plot at any given point or not.

   • 𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗖 𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

Magic is fully retained in a body for up to thirty minutes after death.
Between thirty minutes and one hour, it begins to fade as the body starts
   decaying.
After twenty-four hours, if the magic hasn’t been withdrawn, it’s
   completely gone.

   • 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗫𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗗𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞?

The device is a forearm-length cylinder with a multi-step safety
   mechanism to prevent accidental activation.

   𝗧𝗢 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘:

   Twist counterclockwise
   Pull upward
   Twist clockwise twice

Only after these steps can you press the three activation buttons, which
start a ten-second countdown. Users must get at least ten feet away from
the device before detonation. After that, the extraction process begins
   and runs for thirty seconds.

   𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗦 𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗧:

The device emits a low buzzing sound, and particles begin spinning in a
   loop around the cylinder.
At the three-second warning, the device folds open like a spring flower
The spinning particles freeze in the air around the target, slowly forming a
chain—an ethereal, shimmering necklace that appears to float midair.
The particles rise and fall, coalescing into a collar around the neck of the
   deceased.
The subject’s body turns gray and shriveled, bones crack, flesh tightens,
and the magic is pulled through the particle chain.
The necklace gradually loses its radiant color, each strand turning into an
abyssal gray as it absorbs the magic.

   𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗦:

   The chain breaks apart.
The particles reform and return to the cylinder, now dark and still.
Once vibrant, they’ve become dull black orbs resting at the bottom of the
tube, now completely drained of vitality.

   • 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗖 𝗚𝗢 𝗔𝗙𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧?

Once a container is filled with magic (after twenty kills), it’s brought back
to the ship stationed off the coast of Voxthain.

The ship is technologically cloaked, making it completely invisible to the
naked eye but still physically present. (Yes, someone could swim into it
face-first. Very embarrassing, but good thing it’s outside of Voxthain
   where no one swims. Probably.

The Runalithe navigator returns the vessel to Runalithe once a week to
deposit the stored magic. Has a massive set of holding containers below
deck where the magic is stored until delivery, but the Runalithe crew
decided to start taking them back after one was filled, feeling more urgent
   the more time that passes.

The ship is able to convert into a land rover, used for transporting the
magic directly to the encroaching shadowfog, spraying it out into the
mass of gray tendrils. The magic dances with the fog, always winning out,
the fog retreating and dissipating in mid-air for miles and miles and miles
until it’s entirely pushed back or gone.

   • 𝗢𝗡 𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗘?

The continent of Faerun is 10 million square miles.
The last surviving nation, Runalithe, has just 500,000 square miles
   remaining.
At its current speed, the fog will consume all of Runalithe in just over two
   years.

So yeah, 1,000 miles per death sounds powerful, but with the scale we’re
working on (10 million square miles, only 500,000 left), it’s barely enough
to hold the line. The crew is fighting a massive, creeping annihilation with
a tool that buys time—but only barely.

   • 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗨𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗪

Bodhi, assassin of the Runalithe crew, made his first kill and magic
extraction on the Outer City Path in Voxthain. The target was Micheal
Daenerys, father of Voxthain Councilor Sapphira Daenerys. There were no
witnesses to the assault and the Militia was left with no clues as to who
committed the crime aside from a B and a triangle carved into the victim’s
   forehead.

The Runalithe crew has set up shop in a coastal cave just outside of the
sister cities. Unbeknownst to them, deep within the cave lies a sweetly
scented moss, releasing a toxin into the air that impacting the cognitive
functioning of those who breathe it in for too long. The moss is not fatal,
but it will cause hallucinations, aggression, and a sharp decrease in logical
thinking. Those who spend more time in the cave with the moss will be
   more impacted by it.

   • 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗔 & 𝗖𝗘𝗢𝗡𝗥𝗘𝗜⠀completed

Caledonia, a Voxthain Councilor, and Ceonrei, an Asterath Councilor, had
a meeting together in Voxthain’s Council Building. It didn’t go so well,
which would later lead to a confrontation at the Neowrath Tavern in
Asterath’s fighting ring. The confrontation began rumors of a
   Voxthain Councilor visiting Asterath.

It would’ve been too much to hope for that the more sinister side of
Asterath, Club Serpentine, wouldn’t have heard about the rumored
Voxthain Councilor frequenting their city. Zyx and Cadmus, the Head
and Rattler of the gang, sent a few of their best Snakes to abduct her.
She killed many of them, but was ultimately overpowered.

   • 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛⠀ongoing

Katarina and Selene met up for their weekly militia meeting, which
Caledonia did not show up for. She hadn’t answered any messages
either, which raised alarms. Ceonrei has sent Katarina a message across
the cities alerting her of Caledonia’s abduction, but due to differing magic
levels, it didn’t reach Katarina until the next morning.

   • 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛⠀ongoing

Fiehra, Hannah, and Ceonrei had a meeting behind the bar at the
Neowrath Tavern about Caledonia’s abduction, which Hannah witnessed.
Ceonrei pressed for answers and then left to search for the Councilor.
Europa, another Asterath Councilor and notably the daughter of the Club
Serpentine leaders, has remained around the area to cause chaos.

   • 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘⠀ongoing

Caledonia has been deposited into the Rattling Chambers for Zyx and
   Cadmus to brutalize! Yippee!
