This seemed to have a lot of technical whale info in the story. Is this a subject you were knowledgeable in beforehand or did you have to do a lot of research? Also, were you able to write off a trip to Hawaii for research purposes (kidding)?

I knew very little about it. I did five weeks with a research team in Hawaii to learn much of what ended up in the book, as well as a ton of reading.
