Here is a link to the PDF of this guide, which is publicly available to all: https://www.ojp.gov/pdffiles1/nij/247...
First off, the description on Goodreads is discussing Marines - most likely a completely different guide by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). I think a better description can be found in the Overview of the guide itself (see PDF link above).
Potential new description:
NIJ Guide-0101.06 incorporates new knowledge about ballistic-resistant armor that has been gained in the intervening 13 years as the result of both NIJ-funded research and research funded by others.
This guide has two principal purposes. The first is to inform law enforcement, corrections and other public safety agencies in the development of sound policies and procedures concerning body armor from its procurement to its disposal. The second is to provide officers a better understanding of the importance of wearing body armor, wearing it correctly and caring for it properly.
This guide is also intended to provide its readers a better understanding of body armor and how it works, explain NIJ Standard-0101.06 in nontechnical terms and provide an overview of the voluntary equipment compliance testing program established by NIJ to ensure the effectiveness of body armor sold to law enforcement, corrections and other public safety agencies.
Either way, the current description needs to be scrapped.
Secondly, the date published is wrong. It is currently listed as February 21, 2025, but this guide was published in December 2014. It says so right on the cover page. I could not find a Body Armor Guide from the NIJ published in 2025.
Third, I don't know why this says independently published. Shouldn't the publisher be listed as the U.S. Department of Justice?
Fourth, while the author listing isn't incorrect, the NIJ has a more populated author page https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... that would probably be better to either direct people to or combine with.
Fifth, there should be an additional digital edition listing with either 104 pages -- page number taken from the PDF -- or 102 pages (the PDF page number minus the cover and postage page).
