Betty | 233 comments Hi Team Rewind and Read!

We're doing great so far. We've completed 3 single prompts and 3 double prompts so far. And working towards completing some other prompts, including several triples. We get the most points per book by completing triple prompts, so let's focus on those the most.

Looks like the spot we definitely need something else for is the double prompt "a year or date in the title". Brianna - this would be a good place for you to see if you can find one to fill it.

Let me know how it's going for you all and if you have any problems or questions.

OntoThe Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon published in 1999 to finish out the 1990s

Kay-Mika | 63 comments Zwei glückliche Sommer
Type of book: apparently German literature ( whatever that means)
but the protagonist is 19 and the other three young women are around 20 to 23-ish, so I would say YA.
The publisher is known for publishing books for 12 to 13 year olds (and children , think of Enyd Blyton)
Description:
Read a book you haven’t read since you were younger
last time read 20.8.2012
Read 2 books with a unit of time in the title. has the word “Sommer(summer)” in the title
Read 2 books published or set in the 1930s.

Honestly, you can decide. Whichever prompt needs it most

LinaVer | 446 comments Blagica wrote: "if you put it in 2010s and I put dark Matter in 2010s we will only need one"

Ok, I've put it in 2010s :)

message 62: by LinaVer (new)

LinaVer | 446 comments I'm enjoying The Handmaid's Tale but it's a bit of a heavy read, so I am also starting Always Be My Duchess, which will fill the "timepiece" prompt (single).

message 63: by Betty (new)

Betty | 233 comments For now I'm putting Kay-Mika's book in the 1970s prompt.

message 64: by Shari (new)

Shari | 482 comments My Historical Non-Fiction book I had picked to read is less than 100 pages. I had forgotten that was a requirement for the books. I will look for another book to fit this prompt unless someone else already has a book that will fit this.

message 65: by Shari (new)

Shari | 482 comments The Longings of Wayward Girls - I have this on my planning page, but it looks like other books have already filled the 2 prompts this fits. Can you confirm?
Once I finish my current book (Delusion In Death) I will start on The Lost Hours next.

message 66: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12941 comments if the 2010s is what you need I can move dark Matter let me know

message 67: by Betty (new)

Betty | 233 comments Shari - The Longings of Wayward Girls would work great for the set in 2 or more time periods single prompt. The other ones planned that fit that are being used for other prompts, so it's available.

Also, I moved the Air Raid Book Club to fill the 40s prompt. I'm going to read a book for an already filled decade for the historical fiction single.

message 68: by Betty (new)

Betty | 233 comments We’re moving along well, team!!

For the 1970s prompt, I’m starting a book I remember very fondly from my childhood, “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH”

message 69: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12941 comments I can read Carrie for the 70s I have about 2 hours left with the girl who loved Tom Gordon.

That would be great!

message 71: by LinaVer (new)

LinaVer | 446 comments All my read books/upcoming reads can be moved wherever they fit best. I've tried my best to fill in all the possible prompts they suit.

message 72: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12941 comments I will start and finish Carrie tomorrow.

message 73: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12941 comments The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon < finished
Carrie < tonight or tomorrow

message 74: by LinaVer (new)

LinaVer | 446 comments * The Handmaid's Tale - finished - I've put it under "set in a future decade" but if someone else was reading for that prompt, it can also suit the 80s prompt or "published in a decade I was born", as I was born in the 80s.
* Always Be My Duchess - will probably finish tonight/tomorrow - for the "timepiece on the cover" but would fit some other prompts as well (will mark them in the planning tab)

I know I said I might read 2-6 books and I've planned them in, but it's going kind of slow for me, sorry! If anyone has good recommendations for shorter books for the last days to read, I could switch to them to fill in one or two prompts.

message 75: by LinaVer (last edited Jul 25, 2025 04:03AM) (new)

LinaVer | 446 comments I’ve just seen a comment somewhere on the internet by a person who calculated that the time frame for when the events in The Handmaid's Tale are set is 2010s because (view spoiler) I’ve marked the calculation as spoiler just in case it is. Anyway, if things are happening in 2011 (”near future”, seeing as the book was published in the 80s), this book could possibly fill the 2010s prompt also and we’d then have that triple finished.

Should I move it to that prompt then?

Don't worry about how much you're reading. We're just glad to have you participating with us on Team Rewind and Read! :)

For now, I'm going to put The Handmaid's Tale in the 1980s prompt and Delusion in Death (in progress by Shari) in the future prompt.

I'm pretty sure I can come up with something easily for 2010s.

message 77: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

I’ll be done with Always Be My Duchess tomorrow morning (not many pages left). So, I will have time tomorrow and after tomorrow (potentially two more shorter books).

Betty, is there any prompt, especially from the triples, that I could read something for and help finish the prompt? I’m not particularly tied to the books I’ve planned previously and can switch to something else if needed.

LinaVer - the biggest things we need now are 1 book for the 1940s triple and one book for the 1960s triple

Betty | 233 comments Looking at what we still need.

We'll be all set with the triples with what's in progress now.

For the doubles:

Billie - do you think you'll still be able to read The Wisteria Society?
If not, our biggest help would be someone reading another book published or set in the 1920s.

After that, I would say focus on the remaining singles.

message 83: by LinaVer (last edited Jul 27, 2025 12:28PM) (new)

LinaVer | 446 comments Betty, thank you for looking into our progress.

✅ I’m done with Always Be My Duchess.

After that I’ll read these:
✅• Read a book published in the year or decade you were born - Eleanor & Park
• Read a historical nonfiction novel - The Diary of a Young Girl Lithuanian translation, I have it at home

Alternatively, if Billie won’t be able to read for 1920s, I could read ✅The Great Gatsby for the 1920s prompt instead of The Diary of a Young Girl

message 84: by Billie-Jade (new)

Billie-Jade | 53 comments The Wisteria Society is not set in the 1920’s I have removed it from the prompt on the spreadsheet when I realised. I have started it already but it will only fit the historical fiction prompt. I am about 3/4 of the way through atmosphere so I should finish both of those.

Eleanor & Park for "Read a book published in the year or decade you were born" is done ✅
Onto The Great Gatsby.

Happy reading and last day of the readathon!

message 93: by LinaVer (new)

LinaVer | 446 comments I just realized Eleanor & Park is only based in the 80s, but not published, so it does not fit the "Read a book published in the year or decade you were born" prompt. BUT I've switched it with The Handmaid's Tale in the tracking and that still works, so luckily all is good. :D

Billie-Jade | 53 comments I have finished the wisteria society and have added it to the spreadsheet. I have started reading heartless hunter and I’m half way through which has flashbacks so it could count for 2 or more time periods possibly if I can finish it in time. If not or if the prompt is filled I will add it to the non-prompt section of the spreadsheet tomorrow.

I'm sorry, Blagica, I missed that!

I've finished The Great Gatsby for the 1920s.
And it's only 2,5 hours left for me of the readathon, so that's my last book.
