Drace (dracenines) | 7524 comments If this is too large of an issue for Book/Author Page Issues, let me know and I'll move it to Projects.

There are errors with multiple authors who have the name Oliver Harris. There are two Oliver Harrises on Goodreads.

https://www.goodreads.com/author/list... – The Oliver Harris who has a Goodreads Author profile is a novelist.

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... – The Oliver Harris who is not a Goodreads Author is an editor who has worked on many modern editions of the works of William S. Burroughs.

A number of books that should have the Burroughs editor Harris on their authors list accidentally have the novelist.

All of the following books need to have the novelist Harris removed from their contributors list and the editor Harris added with the Editor role:

Junky

The Letters of William S. Burroughs 1945-1959

2. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
3. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... – This edition needs to be invalidated entirely since it’s an imported Amazon listing.

===

A Burroughs Triptych
1. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... – also needs to be merged with the valid edition since it’s an invalid duplicate: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...

The Exterminator Redux
1. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...

This is another duplicate to mark invalid: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

A_MOTUS | 59 comments Hello, I would like to remind you that librarians are volunteer and as it was stated several times your request might take time before it is picked up and completed by anyone. In the future avoid bumping every 2 days, especially for this kind of work who takes a bit of time :
- It does not compel us to open the thread as we can see that it already has several comments (which usually mean someone is working on it, and I say that because I often filter the chat by number of comments, meaning more than one comment is out of my scope so you were very lucky this time)
- It does not make us pick it faster
- It is very annoying and some people might just ignore you to prove a point

For more information see : https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Drace (dracenines) | 7524 comments Thank you for your help, it's much appreciated. Also, the post you linked literally recommends bumping every two days, and it is the guideline I have followed since Jaclyn posted that thread.

15. Bump frequency: If some time has passed and your post has not had a reply, "bumping" it up the list is a good idea. A good guidelines is to bump requests for Adding New Books & Editions after a week has passed since your original post, and 48 hours for all other requests.

(Emphasis mine.)

It's not an actual valid edition. It was generated by the Goodreads bot trawling Amazon and creating an edition by importing a listing for someone selling a book secondhand.

A_MOTUS | 59 comments A Burroughs Triptych : I changed the name but I can only combine editions and not merge them as the same edition.

I have merged the second one. It did not require a superlibrarian.

From what I can see on my ends they are indeed combined but still separated as differents editions which was what I was suggesting to do. Or is there another level of merging I don't know about?

I marked the book as invalid because it did match another book that had a more complete description and I could not find anything to explain the duplicate (no isbn but sames dates and publisher) but it is still visible in the list of editions of the books.

message 16: by Drace (new)

Drace (dracenines) | 7524 comments I explained the duplicate in message #11 in this thread. Somebody created an Amazon listing to sell a secondhand copy of the book. They did not include an ISBN in the Amazon listing. The date and publisher were most likely autofilled by Amazon. The Goodreads bot imported the secondhand listing because the bot thinks all secondhand Amazon listings are actual editions.

And yes, I am sorry, you are right it is indeed written "48h for all other requests", but in practice I suggest you keep in mind the number of comments and wait a bit longer. I just responded to some request posted in March so we do go older requests too ;)
