Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1497 comments Sawyer is having a bad day. (view spoiler) And the cat she tries to save, scratched her in the neck.

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1497 comments I haven't decided yet if Sawyer is "Malice" of The Crew, she certainly has a reason to be - horrible uncle. The timing of where the two of them appear in the story doesn't seem to make it possible - hmmmm....

You've got to love the motto of The Crew - "One douchebag at a Time."

Update after Chapter 31 - I think Malice is (view spoiler)

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1497 comments Chapter 25 has an interesting turn of events -(view spoiler)

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1497 comments Sawyer's mother is piece of work. She is cold, emotional distant, very concerned about maintaining appearances, and refuses to acknowledge the abuse that happened in her own household.

On page 256, the parents are described as "shockingly evil" - I think that is a perfect description of these despicable people😡🤯

This was my first book by this author. The story held my interest as there certainly was lot going on and Sawyer was a solid lead character. I look forward to reading the next two books of this series.

Easy read, but....

To me the writing style is a bit juvenile/simple so this will likely be the only one I'll read of the series.

I also keep getting jarred by the oddball "Facts" the author keeps putting in the story.

Her sister is urging her not to send the cat to the SPCA because she says they euthianize after 3 days, while most SPCA's are non kill shelters and its the pound that euthanizes after three days. Now I just came to the section where she says her sister only works part time a few days at a coffee shop for the health insurance coverage. That's unusual as most of those places keep you are part time because they cant offer health insurance coverage under federal mandates for full time employees.

Ah well, I'm a the first morning back with her parents right now.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 901 comments Done. Was not a fan unfortunately. Small cast of characters too and almost everyone involved had something to do with something.

This may be an understatement!!!

I was also wondering who the crew actually was and if it was Sawyer. But, I thought it couldn't be her, it had to be one of the other sisters. I figured it out before it was revealed but only because of the completely opposite behavior.

That town is really a bad place!

I read the 2nd book yesterday.

I'm worried about "The Crew"; I'm afraid they are going to push the wrong person and end up dead - or all will be in jail!!

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1497 comments Just started the 2nd book last night. Doesn't seem quite as crazy as 1st one - yet.......

There is an element of crazy still!

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1497 comments Since the audiobook came with the KU, I thought I would give it a try. The narrator is not that the right choice for a suspense/thriller. She can create identifiable different voices but in sing-song tone.

I will go back to the book for the next in the series.

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 1497 comments I enjoyed this book but don’t think it added anything that the first book didn’t have. This book was slower than the first; it had a different vibe. The last third of the book did pick up and got more interesting.

The female vigilante group which calls themselves The Crew is still getting payback on some of the men that have abused them in the past. Is their motivation starting to stumble/wither?

Sawyer’s boss wants her to write about the group, which the paper is calling the Black Wigs because of their disguises. Does she more like a private detective instead of a journalist? Should get interesting if/when the 2 worlds cross.

Two comments about the child kidnapping stuck with me:
💠“If there were that many young girls taken within a few short years, not only would media be all over it, citizens would be waving their pitch forks in front of the capitol.” Things may start out that way but then fizzle.
💠“I read that two thousand children go missing in the US every single day”

“Normal married problems would be arguing about…how the other person drives”. I hate the way my husband drives. There are many times I just cover my eyes!

To me both books were quick reads. There wasn't anything amazing about the story or the writing, but they were good enough to hold my interest and even without the buddy read, I would finish out the series.

I do feel like Sawyer's character acts more like a PI than a journalist.

I suspect book 3 will bring her face to fact with The Crew. I'm curious how that will play out! (Adding, I haven't read the blurb; this is just my opinion from reading the first 2 books.
