STORY STITCH
The two common themes between the two books seem to be escapism, one being a physical escapism and the other escapism from a generational weight that has been handed down probably for a few hundred years.
Both books take place in the South. Sookie has to physically escape from the vampires. Ike and Buddy Lee have to escape from the generational weight that has been dragging them down for years. That weight deals with racism and homophobia. Both men are racist, both are homophobic, and both are convicts that have done hard time at one point in their lives. Along the way they learn quite a bit about themselves and eventually they escape the people that they once were in order to work together to find out who killed their boys.
Leanne read The Tattooist of AuschwitzTianne read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Both books tell compelling stories. While The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on true events, Harry Potter uses fantasy to explore different aspects of the book. Both present themes of love, resilience, friendship, identity, and moral courage and call attention to the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity
