YA book where characters escape to Havasupai Falls. Read around 1980s/1990s.

The title says it all, I don’t remember a single other thing about it except for someone explaining that Havasupai means “people of the blue green waters”. Possibly the main characters were trying to escape a situation and ended up there but I really don’t remember, they might have just been traveling.
I probably read it in the 80s or 90s at the very latest but it could have been published any year!

Along its course the creek irrigated large communal fields of alfalfa and corn as well as melon patches, peach and fig trees, and the watering holes of the community’s beef cattle. The stream made life possible in the canyon, and because of it the Indians called themselves the Havasupai, “peoples of the blue green waters.”
