Lost in Time and I Need Your Help!

Many years ago, when I was a kid, I read the first book in a series—I think it was called The Timelords or something similar. The story involved time travel with a unique twist. The main characters were two girls from our world who traveled to an alternate past where Earth had two moons and magic was real. While there, they met a boy who helped them return home. But something strange happened—when they got back to our time, they found a picture of the boy, suggesting he hadn’t returned to his world but somehow ended up in ours, in the past.

This story has stuck with me for decades. Does anyone know the name of this book? It’s been bugging me for years.

could it be So You Want to Be a Wizard or Deep Wizardry by Diane Duane? They are from the correct time frame.
