Lynn | 2974 comments Finished two book over the weekend and just reported

message 102: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I finished In the Blink of an Eye. That was a 4 star read for me. Now I am enjoying Put A Wet Paper Towel on It: The Weird and Wonderful World of Primary Schools. As a teacher myself, I find it especially hilarious.

Well done, Lynn!

Kristie | 19136 comments I made it to 84% in my first book, which is a little further along than I thought I'd be tonight so I'm happy with that. Also, I was able to change some plans so I should have a little extra reading time tomorrow. :)

message 105: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments How's your book Kristie? I was looking through my chirp library today and realized that I own that book. I know you said it started weird, did it get better?

Sharon Hopper | 2418 comments I think I can do three more…

COLD: The Pale Cold Light

CLOSE: Close Your Eyes and Count to 10

HOT: Hot

message 107: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I added them Sharon!

Kristie | 19136 comments It's ok, Katrisa. Science Fiction isn't my favorite genre, so I may not be the best judge. I get a monthly subscription book box and this was in there one month, so I needed to read it.

The story has gotten more interesting, but after restarting a few times I decided not to keep going back or I'd never finish it. So, I've ended up with questions that were unanswered (How'd they get there? Why would they do that? etc). I'm not sure if the questions would have been answered if I had gone back to reread bits or if it was just little glitches in the storyline that didn't make sense.

So far, I'm thinking 3 stars, but we'll see how the end goes.

Lynn | 2974 comments Ugh, I'm DNFing Seven Day Switch. I just can't with these characters! Especially after my last book that I couldn't stand the characters for either but pushed through because of this challenge.

I'm not doing it to myself a second time!

I will replace that book for the same word - Day - with The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland

message 111: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I'm 25% into my book, Never Forgotten.

Good choice! I liked The Day the World Came to Town. It is nice to hear about humans being kind to each other in this often toxic world! I hope you like it!

Anna Kļaviņa (annamatsuyama) | 1355 comments Read & reported books for small, love & hate and happy.

Currently reading Sad Cypress. I've 2 more books to read for the EMPTY and NONE.

message 114: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Reading my second book Black No More. Got a busy week ahead of me. Let's see if I can squeeze in a third.

message 115: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I made it to the end of Slow Dance by Rainbow Rowell but it was a very boring listen. My least favourite by this author so far.

I've tested positive for covid and am feeling a bit groggy but so far this is helping my listening as all I want to rest with my eyes shut and a book playing. Good timing eh?

Will start Lying in Wait by Liz Nuggent next

message 116: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Bummer to hear about Slow Dance Margo. I own that one but haven't read it. I usually really enjoy that author but I guess they can't all be winners!

message 117: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19136 comments Oh no, Margo. I hope you have a light case and feel better quickly.

message 118: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I've started reading A Touch of Night. It replaces Those Who Hunt the Night for the task word, night.

message 119: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19136 comments I've finished The Last Murder at the End of the World. It was ok. I ended up giving it 3 stars. It was good, but I knew much of the end from the beginning.

I'm starting Great Big Beautiful Life.

message 120: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Lanelle wrote: "I've started reading A Touch of Night. It replaces Those Who Hunt the Night for the task word, night."

Ok I switched that out for ya!

message 121: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I will probably finish my pledged books tomorrow. So I found another pair. I will read The Dead of Winter: Beware the Krampus and Other Wicked Christmas Creatures and That Summer for Summer/Winter

message 122: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19136 comments I made some progress on my second book today. It is longer, but it's an easy read so it is going pretty quickly. I made it to 32% today. :) I'm glad I picked a third book.

message 123: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Kristie wrote: "Oh no, Margo. I hope you have a light case and feel better quickly."

Should be a light dose as I had my booster shot last month, but I'm having trouble with my voice today, very sore throat.

@Katrisa, As I'm on my final book I'd to add another pair to my list please
The Black Feathers
The White Hare

message 124: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I've started reading Old Lamps for New Ones: And Other Sketches and Essays Hitherto Uncollected. It replaces Old Friends and New Fancies for the task words, old and new.

Margo | 11628 comments Katrisa wrote: "Bummer to hear about Slow Dance Margo. I own that one but haven't read it. I usually really enjoy that author but I guess they can't all be winners!"

Whoops, sorry. Hope you might enjoy it more than me!

message 126: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Ok I added your books to the list Lanelle and Margo!

message 127: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments Thank you for taking such good care of us, Katrisa!

message 128: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments I am in car so can't post links, but I finished Yes, No, Maybe so and All the Colors of the Dark. Any preferences for what I do next?

message 129: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Beth, I marked your books in the list in message 1.
So the only singleton on our list right now is OPEN/CLOSE (we have a close but not an open) so if you have a book with open that would complete a pair. Other than that you can choose any other of the key words.

message 130: by Anna (new)

Anna Kļaviņa (annamatsuyama) | 1355 comments I'm currently reading Seven Empty Houses.
And I'm also reading The Torture Camp on Paradise Street and Cards on the Table both books have ON the tittle.

message 131: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Ok Anna I added your two new books! And Beth, that leaves an open spot for a book with OFF in the title too if you want to complete a pair!

message 132: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I have had a couple of surprise good books! I knew that One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This was fantastic already because I read that one already. It is just so good and so important. I think everyone should read it.
But Inside Out and Loud: Accept Nothing Less Than the Life You Deserve were both books I just chose because they fit and the library had them but I really enjoyed both!
Now I am going to start my SUMMER book.

message 133: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments ok, I will do Better Off Dead and then I can probably do Open Season later on week!

message 134: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19136 comments I was plugging right along and my earbuds died! I've never had that happen with this pair, but I forgot to charge them last night. I should know to charge every night during a toppler. Charging now... up to 30% and I'm impatiently waiting. lol

Lanelle | 4020 comments Kristie wrote: "I was plugging right along and my earbuds died! I've never had that happen with this pair, but I forgot to charge them last night..."

Oops :D

message 136: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I've finished my Old/New book. I'll report it right after I post this.

I'd like to claim OFF and BIG, please. I'll be reading The Mystery Off Glen Road and One Big Open Sky.

message 137: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19136 comments I started Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls while waiting for my earbuds. I made it 10% in. :) Now back to Great Big Beautiful Life while I cook dinner and touch up the paint in my bedroom.

Side note for context - Some of you will remember that I had a pipe burst in my house back in January. I decided to paint my bedroom while it was still empty. Yes, it is still empty. Fortunately. they are supposed to be installing the carpet tomorrow. Then, we just have a few small things left to repair before they can finally return all my stuff.

So, I need to touch up the paint tonight before the new carpets go in tomorrow. I definitely don't want to try to paint anything over the new carpet.

I will definitely remember to charge my earbuds again tonight! lol

message 139: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19136 comments I am, yes. Can't wait. My grandson will be here in a week for a summer visit, so it really needs to get wrapped up quickly.

message 140: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I am going to pledge another pair of books. I got Black Butterflies so I went looking for a WHITE book and found White Holes.
I really liked The Dead of Winter: Beware the Krampus and Other Wicked Christmas Creatures - it was super interesting to me. That Summer is just meh.

message 141: by Lynn (last edited Jun 11, 2025 03:51AM) (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments I only have one book left on my 'required' reading, so I'm going to add another to my list and fill the missing category for small.

Add Small Town Pride please Katrisa

message 142: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Got it Lynn!

message 143: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments I have finished reading Black no more. I can squeeze in one more book but don't see any words that need to be completed.

If any one is reading an extra book, please let me know and I will try to pick up the opposite word.

message 144: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments Pragya wrote: "I have finished reading Black no more. I can squeeze in one more book but don't see any words that need to be completed."

You could read a book to pair up with Love, Hate & Clickbait and Old Lamps for New Ones. Just an idea.

message 145: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Perfect. Thanks, Lanelle. I will find something and update in the morning.

message 146: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Jun 11, 2025 02:07PM) (new)

Kristie | 19136 comments Love, Hate & Clickbait and Old Lamps for New Ones both have matching pairs in them already. You would still just add one point, so you could actually read for anything.

I'm not sure if I'll have time to complete another, but I have a book for NEVER, if you want to try to read for ALWAYS.

message 147: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments I finished Black Butterflies. It was so good. I also finished White Holes, which not gonna lie, sort made my head explode. That sort of theoretical space/time science is super interesting, but I just can't wrap my head around it. There was some really interesting stuff about the nature of time that I want to ponder though. It was a library book, but I think I might buy it so I can sit with it more.
I added an OPEN/CLOSE pair for me to do next. Close Range: Wyoming Stories and Do Not Open.
And Pragya, if you want to just pick a word, I can see what I can find to pair with it.

message 148: by Anna (new)

Anna Kļaviņa (annamatsuyama) | 1355 comments I'm going to read Peril at End House

message 149: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Thanks, Kristie and Katrisa. I am going to read On Women for ON.

message 150: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I'm reading Old Lover's Ghost for OLD.

Today and tomorrow are busy days, so this might be my last book.
