This is the About This Group topic. Here, we are focused on educating and
having meaningful, respectful debates and conversations about intense
and important topics.

This group is one of the many debate groups on Goodreads, but more leaning into the education, critical thinking, and citing sources aspect of any solid argument and standpoint. We have provided many resources in the more all-encompassing educational topics for anyone to have access to along with a short summary in the event that someone cannot access the link for whatever reason.

For the debates in this group, we really want to emphasize evidence-based arguments. Any claim that is made here should be backed up by a source, either external or from our education topics within this group. Having evidence to back up a claim is so very important for maintaining respectful and fact-based discussions on these topics. Many of the topics in this group are so polarizing and deeply personal for people, and we would like this group to remain honest to the state of our world instead of stumbling into what-ifs and misinformation.

While most debates are more yes or no topics and opinion-based, we would like to see factual evidence in this group more than just your own beliefs. We have also steered away from harmful topics relating to human rights, as those have no place in debate groups. You may have your own opinion on any human rights issue or whether certain groups of people should exist, but we will not be opening anyone’s way of life or mere existence up for debate. We can have conversations surrounding the education of human rights issues within the educational topics for those who would like to learn more, but we will not be debating peoples’ existences.
