Looking for a Beta Reader – First Chapter of Standalone Fantasy Prequel (8K Words)

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for a beta reader (or two!) to take a look at the first chapter of my latest project, The Last Golden March. It’s a standalone story set in the world of my fantasy series, but takes place a few hundred years before the first book so you can go in completely blind and still follow along just fine.

The chapter is 29 pages long (around 8,152 words), and I’d really love some honest feedback on the opening does it hook you? Is the pacing solid? Anything confusing or unclear?

Hi Luke,

Be cautious when engaging with the people who have commented here. There have been complaints about them from other members of the group in this same folder, claiming that they generate their feedback with AI and ask for payment after reading the first three chapters of a book even to authors who have specifically requested free betas. They also ask for testimonials, sending the authors links to a Fiverr page that requires payment to leave said review.

Hi Olivia thanks for the information, if anyone does come back to me with feedback and asking for payment for it, I will decline, as the discussion is seeking free beta readers I don't plan on paying if forced to.
