Alternative spellings of author's name in different languages

Books mentioned in this topic
Platon - Skrifter. Bok 3 Staten (other topics)Odissea (other topics)
Colección Platón. Menón (other topics)
Here is an example of the first where the Swedish spelling of Plato (Platon) is just seen in the title but not as an author: Platon - Skrifter. Bok 3 Staten
Here is an example of just the alternative spelling, Omero, being just on an edition of the Iliad: Odissea
Here is an example how it should be done according to the linked manual of a Spandish edition of Plato where Plato is first and the the french spelling Platón is a secondary author: Colección Platón. Menón
Now I have two questions.
1. Is it still the policy that alternative spellings of an author's name should be added as a secondary author?
2. If so, is there a standard role (like translator and editor) I should assign to the alternative name?
