15.8 Shipwrecked and Stranded
Biscayne National Park is located in south Florida, USA. Biscayne protects aquamarine waters, emerald islands, and coral reefs and is 95% underwater. Within the park resides Maritime Heritage Trail where you can see the many shipwrecks throughout history.
Read a book where a shipwreck or someone who stranded in the ocean or on an island is essential to the story.
Required: If the required element is not evident from the Goodreads main page provide a reference.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 3940 comments I am thinking of The Lost Passenger the sinking of the titanic is the catalyst for a new life for the MC's - is this what the task is looking for or does it have to be about the actual shipwreck event

It needs to be someone shipwrecked or stranded.

stuck in the ocean on the ocean, as long as they are stuck. It could be a broken down boat, on a floating lifeboat, wading in the ocean. As long as they are stuck and can't go anywhere without help.

this book would work

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments I was wondering if The Terror would work here (if I can face all 750+pg of it!) - it's a fictionalised horror version of the 1845 Franklin Expedition to find the Northwest Passage, where both ships got stuck in pack ice for multiple years, before trying to walk home. Or, indeed, a book about the Franklin Expedition in general (I came across it in The Ministry of Time, where one of the characters is part of that expedition)

I don't feel this fits. She's not stranded or shipwrecked.

Its set on an island but it doesn't sound like they are stranded. So this would not work.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 1555 comments I am wondering is this will work The Devils

9 people are sailing from what could be Rome to Troy. 8 of them are protecting a woman who they believe is the rightful heir to the throne of Troy. Many groups are working to stop them from reaching their destination, and pirates attack them. When the ship starts going down, they find themselves in unlikely pairs trying to help each other. None of them really like each other. When they wash up on shore, they are still in these pairs and end up having to aid each other in surviving, finding the others, and reaching Troy. It is essential to the story as the dynamics between them all change

The group is trapped on an island, which is a little town, during a storm.

I will have to say no to this. They are caught in a storm, and will be able to leave once it subsides. They are not trapped on the Island.

Yes to this one

Julia (julia103) | 2714 comments Sorry for the last-minute question. I had reserved a book from the library which I thought would be available today, but now won't be there until next week :(

Would either of these work?
Surviving Savannah
A History of the World in Twelve Shipwrecks

(They were suggested by a sympathetic librarian when she told me that The Last Lifeboat wouldn't be there until next week)
