I swear I read this book but I remember the name.

It’s a supernatural story about a house full of people. It’s kind of like a boarding house situation. The main character is female possibly Indian and there was either some type of crime committed, someone died or she started to see ghost. There is some sort of mystery going on with the boarding house. she and another border ended up working together (possible romantic relationship) and solving the case. I want to say the murderer or culprit was one of the tenants. The front of the book had a cartoonish house on the front. I want to say that it was yellow and the author was Indian as well if I am not mistaken. I red this before 2011 sit it be a pretty old book. The last time I asked about a book I remembered reading I found the book I was looking for so I hope it will happen again.
