I've been really trying to find what book this is - I can only remember the first page, which went something like: an intruder or burglar is inside an otherwise empty house. The homeowner (I feel I remember it being a woman) is hiding in a clothes closet, probably in her own bedroom. She's terrified and hoping the person in the home won't know, but he knows. And he stood outside the closet, and inserted a knife between the slats and 'slowly', possibly silently, stabs the woman.
I remember reading this on a Kindle being displayed in a store here in the UK - this was the very first Kindle model and had just been launched to a lot of publicity, hence my curiosity - so must have been a book c. late 2007, early 2008. It was selected as a book to showcase the Kindle, so I assume it might have been a popular or new/highly publicised thriller novel at around that time.
