There are plenty of quality books that depict Asian culture well.
Clouds above the hill by Ryotaro Shiba- The life story of a poet and a soldier brother depicts the modernization of Japan from an isolated island nation.
Seopyeonje by Yi cheong jun- Yi Cheong jun is my personally favorite writer.
The Shaman Sorceress by Kim Dong Ni
