MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments Net Mini 2 Task: Read a book that is on the The Worst Books of All Time List
https://www.goodreads.com/list/tag?id...

There are only 38 on the list. Anyone read one or want try? I could if I can find a shortish one that is KU, Kobo Plus or Audible....

message 203: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments It's actually this list https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

more options!

message 204: by MN Lisa (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments That is a much better list.

message 205: by Amanda (last edited May 31, 2025 12:01PM) (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I have to find a book with all the numbers 1585 in the publication date for another challenge (Lisa and Trio it's for tudor) so I've been scrolling through our list tasks to try to find one. If anyone sees one please let me know lol

message 206: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I added the start date to the top of our new countries as we are not allowed to bank books for that one :)

message 207: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Has anyone already finished a book that works for "Read a book with a character who desires world domination"? That one is harder for me to tell just by browsing blurbs

message 208: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Also, Haley, what's the first word in "The Woman in Suite 11"? I can't look it up because it's not published yet and we've had a couple tasks for first word in text.

Thanks!

message 209: by Haley (new)

Haley (haleymadd) | 376 comments Just saw this comment! Sadly the first word in the woman in suite 11 is “in” :/

Pont l'Évêque has been knocked out of the tower by the Chipmunks of Chaos lobbing a new cheese through your window!

Lincolnshire Poacher

Lincolnshire Poacher originates in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds on a family farm where it is still produced today. It is made using traditional methods and unpasteurised cow's milk coming from the family's own herd of cows.

Lincolnshire Poacher is a hard, mature cheese that is somewhere between a cheddar and a Swiss mountain cheese. It is a hard pressed, full-fat cheese – rich herbaceous notes linger on the palate. The flavour and texture of the cheese varies both daily and seasonally depending on time of year, stage of lactation, weather and an infinite number of other factors.

message 211: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) Hey Team! Question...so I can do The Berry Pickers BOM starting on June 16th (have the book already).

How late can I join the first BOM, Great Big Beautiful Life, that started today? My library didn't get it back yet so I didn't know if we are allowed to start late and if so, what is the cut off?

Thanks for your help! :-)

message 212: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments You can join anytime but I think it's only for 1 month so need to be finished by the end of June!

message 213: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) Awesome! Thank you, Amanda! I hope to participate in both BOM's this month. :-)

Lisa - did you pick a book from this list? I also would do a book that's KU or avail from my library.

message 215: by MN Lisa (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments I did not pick one. I got distracted. :)

message 216: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I think someone’s book worked for it actually!

message 217: by MN Lisa (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments Dead Girls by Selva Almada
**Argentinian Author.
I can plan to read, but not sure when. Its Kobo Plus and 170 Pages

message 218: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I have very few books before I hit my cap so am trying to maximize page counts so can look for one if as well if we need!

message 219: by MN Lisa (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments I was looking for a Turkish author too,

message 220: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I found one for Turkey 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World looks good and the audio is on sale for under $3!

I've found that picking the largest city and googling "City Goodreads Places" has been very helpful for finding books

message 221: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Audible is having a massive sale so probably going to stock up on some more of the hard countries

message 222: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments oop nevermind on Turkey. While she is a "british-turkish" author turns out she was born in france. I saw another though

The Chipmunks polished off the last cheese quickly but are still hungry!

Vieux Boulogne

Vieux Boulogne is a French cheese originating in the Pas-de-Calais area that is famous for being one of the smelliest cheeses ever - a cloying blend of rotten leeks and farmyard pong.

Vieux Boulogne achieves its unique potency from having its rind washed in beer. The interaction of bacteria in the brew with the cow’s milk enzymes of the skin eventually releases its tell-tale whiffs. The cheese’s bark is far worse than its bite and beneath the stinky rind is a smooth and pleasantly mellow cheese.

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3792 comments This may be a dumb question, but for KEBAB in the title, does it have to have 2 Bs or would 1 B work for both letters?

Kiss Me, Maybe
Make a Killing: A Billie Levine Mystery

You would need two different B's in the title

message 226: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments So for the current cheese all we have left is 2 U's! Does anyone have one planned?

message 227: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Im trying to do longer books for my last 10ish (Just added a 700+ U book to the sheet eeep) but a trusted friend said this one is very good for argentine author Fever Dream

Also the status sheet -https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/... - has all countries completed for mini 1 so far across all teams so a good resource!

message 228: by Haley (new)

Haley (haleymadd) | 376 comments I have a U! For a book called untamed, although earliest I’ll be finished is Friday sadly

message 229: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I think Friday would be just fine Haley! We usually get at least 2 days for cheese. And even if it doesn't make it these time they keep throwing Us at us so it will be very helpful. Is that Glennon Doyle's book? How is it?

message 230: by Haley (new)

Haley (haleymadd) | 376 comments Yes it’s that one! I have the physical & audio but I’m finding it pretty good so far through audio. Definitely reads more like a self help book than memoir to me. But some laugh out loud moments

message 231: by MN Lisa (last edited Jun 04, 2025 08:02PM) (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments I got one that started with "They". Wow. That was harder than I thought it should have been.

Checked it in...next task: Read a book where a character eats something they have never tasted before

message 232: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I’ll have one tomorrow if nobody else does

message 233: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) Mornin' folks!

First, I forgot to tag Project Hail Mary for May 31 so I fixed that. (I finished an older book from before TT and tagged that instead.)

Second, I come with other questions...Do we list the BOM in the "Books" tab on the Planning sheet too? Does the BOM count as a book towards our monthly goal?

Thanks for your help and I hope everyone has a lovely day! :-)

message 234: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Definitely put them on the books tab too!! Everything you read (that meets book requirements) whether BOM, for a mini, or doesn’t work anywhere we can still get page points

message 235: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments Last night, while I had a toddler who decided 11PM-1AM was a GREAT time to be wide awake, Instagram decided to suggest a bunch of "around the world through books" posts so I have a lot of countries saved! I'll upload them at some point to an album we can flip through when we need some suggestions

I also found a U book with an Argentine author that is already on my TBR so we will have a bonus extra one the next time we have a U!

message 236: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I've updated Mini 2 and here's what we have unclaimed right now:

- Read a book that is in the Books You Wish More People Knew About List
- Read a book where the first word of the text is "One" (this does not include chapter title)
- Read a book with short stories
-Read a book with the word highway, road, avenue or street in the title (Plurals are acceptable)
-Read a book with the word car, vehicle, bike, bicycle, truck or lorry in the title (Plurals are acceptable)

The Chipmunks have done with Vieux Boulogne and thrown in a strange clay pot...

Yeghegnadzor

Yeghegnadzor, also known as Horats panir, or "buried cheese", is a traditional Armenian semi-soft cheese originating from the town of Yeghegnadzor in the Vayots Dzor Province of Armenia. The name horats panir refers to the method of maturation — the cheese is stored in clay vessels that are buried in the ground. It has a distinct flavour - sharp, salty and rich.

The cheese is made from pasteurized cow's or goat's milk, or a mixture of both. During production, local mountain herbs, roots, and seeds are added to the milk. These additions are included both in the starter culture and directly into the curd. The mixture is placed in individual clay pots, which are then buried in mountainous terrain. The cheese is aged for at least six months.

message 238: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments LOL at me being sure we would have time for our U books. Well at least they will come in handy at some point!!

message 239: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments But in the positive we already had all the letters for the new cheese!

message 240: by Haley (new)

Haley (haleymadd) | 376 comments aw dang.. of course the one difficult one lol. I'm hoping to get through a good 3/4 books in the next few days!

I'll see if any might work for "one"

Hello all! Some important updates from the mods and changes you'll see on the planning sheet. As well as some information I need from each and every one of you, so please read everything! (And thank you to Tammie over at CN Tower for letting me copy some of her language so I didn't confuse us all)

#1 Captains have been asked to get all books completed to the main...we'll be doing that and likely continue to do that moving forward.
What does this mean for all of us?
- If a change is needed on the SS that affects a finished book, please note that HERE in this thread. We'll need to change both SSs
-While you can't change the main sheet, you can view it. On that sheet anything highlighted yellow has not yet been used for a mini. So if you have something highlighted that can be put somewhere, please let us know! Pay attention to dates for Minis 1 & 3 since we can't bank.

#2 It's time to assign back up players to teams. Captains have been asked to calibrate on books we've each claimed we can read per month vs what we've read.
It's a bit confusing as we started in the middle of the month...but think of it as 30 days. Right now we are 2/3 through month 1.
Here's What everyone Claimed, the max they can read, and where they're at as of 10:44 PM EST

FOR THE FIRST AND LAST TIME, the Mods are letting us say if we need to adjust our books sign ups in either direction. I need everyone to check in if they need that number changed for month 2/3. Please be honest! If you think you're not going to hit your sign up number, we'd love to get a back up (or increase other team members caps accordingly). There's no shame in saying life has happened!

Please ask if you have questions about this. We'll likely avoid making minor changes but if there's a need, we can certainly make requests. We have until 11am central time on Friday ...sorry for the late notice on this! I'll be messaging each of you to make sure you see this message because we have such a short amount of time.

Please let me know if you have any questions! I told our cocaps today that I adore this team so hopefully you're all having a good time too :)

message 244: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I'll start. If anyone needs to decrease or if it evens us out with the other teams I would love to increase my average to 40 BPM. My husband picked up reading as a hobby which means I have more time for it lol. I can also stay the same though and just be strategic

message 245: by MN Lisa (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 760 comments I would like to stay the same. I'm starting to level out with the new job and my one important volunteer thing is done on Saturday I should get back to normal.

message 246: by Shannon (new)

Shannon O'Flynn | 630 comments I would also like to stay the same

message 247: by Shan ~A~ (last edited Jun 05, 2025 09:34PM) (new)

Shan ~A~ | 856 comments I looked at May and I actually read a bit over 40 books that month. With that I'd like to increase my pledged 30 to 35 if it puts my cap to 40. That way I have some wiggle room.

Reed (reedraab) Amanda wrote: "Definitely put them on the books tab too!! Everything you read (that meets book requirements) whether BOM, for a mini, or doesn’t work anywhere we can still get page points"

Thank you for clearing that up for me, Amanda. Happy Friday! :-)

Natasha | 34 comments I'd like to stay the same.

message 250: by Reed (new)

Reed (reedraab) I have always been a very slow reader but I absolutely love getting immersed in books! My ADHD/OCD battle each other when it comes to reading. I need to read every single word but if I get to the end of the page and feel I haven't retained what I read because my mind was drifting, I start back at the point that I do remember. I also have a habit of reading at least 10 books at once so I am all over the place but might finish several books within a few days.

I'm really focusing on trying to reach that 9 books a month cap and wish to stay there. I'll feel super guilty if I don't reach it though so I understand if you need me to drop down the book total.

I just really enjoy being a part of these challenges, everyone is always so cool to chat with. I'm not competitive yet I don't want to drag the Team down. If I need to change my number, you can let me know and it will not hurt my feelings. :-)
