Girl with a mother or maybe step mother/ mother figure named Honey. Read mid 1990s.

I remember reading a book when I was young about a young girl who had a mom (it could be step mother or mother figure, but I am pretty sure it was mom) named Honey. I think that Honey was pregnant and died. I don’t remember what happened to the baby. I think that the story telling about Honey was done through main character memories. The girl also called her mom Honey. It may have been a term of endearment given to the mother by they father, and not her given name. I would have ready this in the mid 90s. I am unsure of when it was written.
