What c-dramas are you currently watching?

Hugh Dancy probably led many of us to reading the book 😊 The BBC series is one of the best. It is up there with "North and South" with Richard Armitage, in my opinion.
The BBC "Middlemarch" is fabulous, too. Who doesn´t remember Rufus Sewell as Will Ladislaw?

I did enjoy 'Flourished Peony' a lot. I initially started it because of the outfits and makeup because I'm a complete nerd when it comes to historical fashion. I thought they did a great job staying true to the styles of the Tang Dynasty.
I will say, the most triggering part wasn’t dragged out too long, so it was a bit easier to handle. It happened early on, and the later episodes don’t really go back to it. I’m not sure if season two will touch on it again, but season one mostly focused on her business and friendships. Also, Li Xian is so cute in this one!

North and South is right up there with the 6hour Pride and Prejudice. Perfection.

Ok...now when I looked into my tbr with 100+ classics (why do I have 100+ classics???), I found that I have also added The Mill on the Floss...Have any of you read that one? (My apologies ,Ququ)

Couldn´t agree with you more 😊

No, I haven´t read "The Mill on the Floss" but my good colleague loves that novel and he has a good and reliable taste. Perhaps I should pull myself together and read it as well 😊

Alright...I was intrigued by its synopsis you see, thanks for the heads up ❤️

They changed cast since the first drama so it is a little unnerving to see the characters with new actors but the main cast in "Hidden Love" are now secondary characters in this one so it makes sense that they would make the switch.
Bai Jingting´s character was played by Victor Ma in "Hidden Love" and his replacement is perhaps more controversial. On balance, I think it was the right decision, because Bai Jingting has some subtlety that Victor Ma has not shown yet. But he must be quite disappointed when he wasn´t cast for his own character in the new drama ...
"The First Frost" is more a winter drama, both in the setting and the plot. This is love at second chance and especially the female protagonist has so much hardship to overcome. It takes quite a while for the relationship to get going but the backstory is well done and very relevant for an understanding of the present.
Has anyone else watched it?

That sounds so annoying that it wasn´t finished! Good to know, though. Thanks for the warning.

I know I had The First Frost on my watchlist but I had no idea it was related to Hidden Love!! I loved Hidden Love so this definitely sounds interesting, it might feel a bit strange because of the different actors though 🤔

It is a difficult question, which one I like best. First off, I´m not finished with "The First Frost" yet, but secondly, "Hidden Love" has a forward trajectory while "The First Frost" exists both in the past and the present. Also, I think that it might even need a trigger warning. There are now hints that there is a specific reason why the female lead is so shut down emotionally...
If I have to choose, I choose "Hidden Love", because I prefer Chen Zheyuan to Bai Jingting but also because it is the happier and less angsty drama. However, this is a personal preference. "The First Frost" is perhaps the deeper drama whose issues will stay with me for longer.
So, they work extremely well together. It does, however, require that the viewer simply accepts that the cast has been changed. It´s odd at first, but then they simply fade into the background. If Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan had reprised their roles, they would have eclipsed the main cast.

Is anyone watching "The Prisoner of Beauty" with Liu Yuning and Song Zu´er? I´ve watched the first 8 episodes so far and really like it.
First off, it is a beautiful drama with luxurious costumes and sweeping landscapes. The main couple has an intense chemistry even without any skinship so far. Song Zu´er is very expressive in her acting and Liu Yuning is well-cast as the powerful, but emotionally shut down leader of the Wei clan.
Secondly, the plot weaves politics and personal relationships together and the supporting cast is a lot of fun as foils for the romantic relationship that definitely is bumpy at the beginning. There is a love rival for the main male lead but he sees through her schemes and there is not a real love triangle. The drama´s focus is more on two people learning to trust and eventually to love each other. They have made it to the point where they respect each other, though.
Lastly, the nonsense about Liu Yuning´s look is unfounded. He looks handsome just the way he is and his height is integrated into the workings of the scenes so that they become romantic. Let´s hope that the drama´s success can shut down some of those anti-fans who seem to thrive on hate-posting about him. In general, it is only for the good that some actors can have successful careers without conforming to toxic beauty standards. It is good for them, as the people they are, and it is good for us in the audience who can see that success is independent of arbitrary standards of beauty.

Added to my watchlist ❤️. I'm still in my exam phase so I haven't been watching anything 😭 😭 😭

Also, I really don't get why some people have so much problems with Liu Yuning's looks. He's hot!! I'm sure they are just jelaous because he has successfull singing AND acting career.
Okay, first off Henriette your writing is ✨amazing✨ you describe the drama so beautifully~~ Haizzz I really don't get why some people have to be so negative about celebrities' looks though, we should just let them live their lives as themselves 😞 In fact, I wish I was as tall and beautiful as Liu Yuning

You must, of course, worry about exams first. I have a lull in activity in the coming week before exam madness hits. Even teachers need to prepare for exams 😊

Thank you so much, Ququ, for your comment about my writing 😊 I agree that we should appreciate actors for their craft and their publicity events but mind our own business, regarding their private lives and physical appearance.

My exams are over now...damn that was stressful...good luck with yours (I didn't see your comment till now...Tysm for the wishes 😭😭😭)

Being a teacher is definitely stressful (I want to be one in the future 😁)... I've always been grateful to my teachers for how much they ran around taking up several other tasks along with teaching. Your msg kinda moved me🥺🥺🥺... I just know that you're a great teacher and your students will love you wherever you go 🫶🫶🫶

You will be a great teacher in the future!
Although I am less certain that my students have as much insight as you do 😊 That´s OK, though. What does sadden me, however, is when people have difficulty living up to their own expectations and then project this negativity outwards.
Fortunately, many of my students find the right balance. School isn´t everything but it is important ...
Wowwwww you're a teacher?? That's so cooooool, I've never wanted to be a teacher though 😓 I genuinely don't understand how teachers can be so patient and caring with kids...I would lose my mind in less than a day

Hihihi Ty ma'am 😁!

Oooh Justice in the Dark is on my watchlist!! Mo Du is also on my tbr list, so I can't wait for 7Seas to release it 🤩 Tell me your thoughts when you finish!

I was going to ask the same question 😊 I heard that it had been sold to a Japanese platform and that is available there. If it is available on a legal, international platform, I would love to watch this drama as well...

I'm not even sure how many episodes there are. I'm at ep 11 and I'm pretty sure I saw there are at least up to 20 something. But I don't know how are the subtitles in later episodes because I saw some comments that it's hard to find good subtitles. I've watched ep 1 with mtl subs and it was horrible, heh. Now, i'm watching Abbys subs and it's good but I think that person stoped translating around ep 20?
I became interested in Mo Du after 7seas announced translation, so I didn't get the chance to read the novel yet and I'm really sad I missed fan translation because it was done by an amazing translator. 7seas better do an amazing job with this!

I watched ep 1 on bilibili but mtl subtitles were horrible. Then I heard for Abbys subs and just put Justice in the dark abbys subs into search and clicked first video😅 it's just that there are ads like every five minutes.

So far I LOVE it 😍😍😍 I just hope they didn't ruin the ending 🥺

Thanks for sharing! It does seem that it is difficult to access on a platform with international friendly subtitles.

I'm debating what to watch next, but I'm thinking of Guardian (if I can find all of it), The Prisoner of Beauty, and Love is Sweet (again, if I can find all of it translated, but I also really loved Bai Lu and Luo Yunxi together).

TTEOTM is among my favourite dramas!! <3<3<3 and yes, it's so emotional (I admit I cried a couple of times). The costumes are gorgeous, soundtrack is amazing - my favourite is ending song. Have you listened to version that LYX and Bai Lu sing? Zhang Bichen & Mao Buyi are, of course, amazing singers but I think that those two just sing so emotionally.
What do you think about the ending?? (view spoiler)
Do tell if you find Guardian and Love is Sweet :D I've watched Love is Sweet on youtube but there were subtitles for only ten episodes or sth

Wahhhh yes it's definitely one of my favorites now! I'll have to check out that version of the ending song. Wayyyy too often I found myself singing along to the music while important things were being said during the scenes...
AND WOW AM I GLAD YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THAT ENDING. (view spoiler)
I ran into the subtitles issues with Love is Sweet as well, so I'll have to do some deep dark web digging.... So far I've only found a few episodes of Guardian -- @Katie, I'll have to check these out! I didn't realize there were two versions of the series. Are both based on Priest's Guardian?

The other one is a Korean drama. Still really good. Worth watching.

"Till the End of the Moon" is indeed gripping. It is a while since I watched it but I remember the feeling of watching it. Luo Yunxi is good in the many facets of his character and his chemistry with Bai Lu is excellent.
If you are looking for chemistry, then "Prisoner of Beauty" is a good choice.
"Guardian" (Priest) is on YouTube; search for "Guardian + Cdrama". It is good but very different from the source material. It is very funny, though.
"Love is Sweet" is on iQiyi but also on YouTube, I think... It's fun bordering on silly but again the chemistry is definitely there 😊

When Luo Yunxi was cast as Chu Wanning for Immortality, I immediately thought he was the perfect fit for that character even though I knew nothing about him as an actor. After watching Till the End of the Moon, I'm even more antsy for them to finally release Immortality because oh my god is he phenomenal.
The cdrama Guardian seems to be mostly on Youtube, but with a lot of random episodes hidden or "unavailable"....
I stumbled upon Moonlight Mystique (Bai Lu and Ao Ruipeng) last night and watched a couple of episodes -- so far I'm really liking it, as it's verrrrrry similar to Till the End of the Moon but with a bit more humor/levity. Anyone else seen this one?

AND WOW AM I GLAD YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THAT ENDING."
I love to sing along too 🤩🤩🤩 also, for me, that's the fastest way to learn new langguage 😃
I don't know if that's the correct explanation of the ending but I'm sticking with my version 😊😊
When I first saw actors for Immortality I actually didn't really like Luo Yunxi for CWN. I don't know, he was not how I imagined CWN but when I saw him in TTEOTM, I was like 'yess, he's perfect!!!' He plays emotional charachters so well!! I'm so excited for Shui Long Yin to be released finally.
I haven't watched Moonlight Mystique yet but it's on my to watch list.

If you don't mind the characters 5 year age gap this is a cute romance drama worth watching!!

This drama is so beautifully done, right? The age gap isn´t really an issue when they grow up and while she is a teenager, he is only friendly in a brotherly way. So, it is a non-issue for me.
The sweet chemistry between Chen Zheyuan and Zhao Lusi is what makes this drama magic.
Have you seen "The White Olive Tree" with Chen Zheyuan? It is very different, but he is excellent in that as well and it has a very realistic depiction of PTSD. This drama is not fluffy, but worth the watch if such themes are OK for you. The main plot is a love story but the main theme is PTSD.

Great to hear about "Moonlight Mystique"! I was on the fence about that drama but might give it a go ... There are so many good dramas and so little time 😊

Yeahh it was a very sweet drama!!
Ooo I have never watched that, tbh as long as its good I'd watch anything lol. I will put it on my list!
By the way, did you like "Flourished Peony". I shied a way from it, because there were some tough, realistic aspects in it ...
