Drace (dracenines) | 7539 comments Posting this thread in the Superlibrarians forum because when I've tried to get staff to carry out these steps in the past, they thoroughly misunderstood me and made mistakes in editing.

The book By Night in Chile has an Alternate Cover Edition that is already listed on Goodreads, but does not have the correct ISBNs/ASIN. These are still assigned to an earlier edition. Since only staff can move ISBNs outside of the ACE Creation process, could somebody please take the following steps?

1. Create an ACE of this book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

The ACE should have the following information:
TITLE: By Night in Chile
AUTHOR: Roberto Bolaño
TRANSLATOR: Chris Andrews
ISBN-10: 0811215474
ISBN-13: 9780811215473
ASIN: 0811215474
PUBLISHER: New Directions
DATE PUBLISHED: As with many ACEs, the publisher’s website lists the original publication date of the ISBN rather than the date the ACE was published. I dug through archived pages of the publisher’s website, and it appears that this specific ACE started being used in 2016. Unfortunately, I can't provide a more specific date than that.
NUMBER OF PAGES: WorldCat lists 130.
FORMAT: Paperback
DESCRIPTION [transcribed from the back cover]:

By Night in Chile, Roberto Bolaño’s first novel to be published in English, launched him as a literary legend and international sensation.

A hypnotic deathbed confession revolving around Opus Dei, poetry, and Pinochet, By Night in Chile pours out the self-justifying dark memories of the Jesuit priest Father Urrutia. As through a crack in the wall, Urrutia’s nightlong rant provides a terrifying, clandestine view of those strange Chilean bedfellows: Church and State.

EDITION LANGUAGE: English
COVER ART: https://cdn.sanity.io/images/p34gzxcg... // https://www.ndbooks.com/book/by-night...

2. Merge the newly-created ACE with this edition: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

David Raz (davidraz) | 13124 comments This is an ACE swap.
Previously, the policy for ACEs required the ISBN to be assigned to the original edition, preferably the first edition with an ISBN. The policy later changed, placing the ISBN on the newest edition instead. However, ACEs created before this change generally do not require a swap.
It's no surprise staff are getting this wrong—I doubt any of them could explain the above.
In this case, I did the swap, but chasing down tens of thousands of ACEs created before the policy change seems like a poor use of anyone’s time.

Agreed, which is why I'm only starting threads about it on books that I'm personally reading. (I actually read By Night in Chile last year, but it took until this month for a thread I made re: invalid editions to be completed by another librarian, and I wanted that out of the way before I started any further clean-up threads.)
