question
Can goodreads PLEASE separate Romantasy and Real Fantasy?

Taking the same "boy and girl who first hate each other fall in love" story, that has literally been told a million times, and adding dragons do NOT make a fantasy book. They make a trashy romance with dragons.
I am so absolutely sick of having to go through this endless pile of trash to find a good fantasy book.
PLEASE make them into separate categories.

oh, Jan... romantasy is "real" fantasy. Just like all the other sub-genres are real fantasy. Maybe expand your mind, or at least your knowledge and use all the tools at your disposal to find what you need.
Maybe search for "high fantasy" or something instead. Google is also free if you're just looking to find a fantasy without a romance plot to read.
I know you were meaning to be condescending, and you were! So congrats on meeting your goal. I bet you didn't mean to sound like you gurgle the patriarchy's dk though. That part could use some work. 1.5/5 ⭐

The thing with genres is, the lines are blurry - and that's OK.
I have to agree with Samantha that Romantasy IS fantasy, in the literal sense of the word.
Fantasy is defined as:
Every Romantasy book I've read has had these elements. If you're looking for specifically Lord of The Rings copycats, look up "high fantasy" or "sword and sorcery" - this will help you steer clear of most romance.

I honestly agree with Jan. Regardless of what anyone would consider Fantasy or not it I think the genres should have a main Genre (with the genre that the book is around coming first THEN the subgenre of which it follows.)
So, this book would be Under Romance with the subgenre Fantasy or Romantsy whichever it is.
I'm not disagreeing that this is Fantasy, but I honestly usually read high fantasy or S&S with magic, and this came up in my recommendations and I hated everything about it because it was purely romance setup in a fantasy world.
I think we need a more transparent categorization system that's all.

Romantasy - women authors typically writing not about men, they write about a fantasy of men
