I was just rejected for Violet Thistlewaite is Not a Villain Anymore from Berkeley Publishing House...and I'm just...so sad! It's not the first ARC that I have been rejected from that I have been stoked to read, but still a bit disappointed. Anyone else get rejected for books they are/were really hype for?

At first I used to feel bad now I realize that’s it’s not personal. Just to keep my heart safe I never request from Berkley.

Is Berkley hard to get approved for? I still have one outstanding from them that I'm hoping for yet, not getting my hopes too high.

I haven't requested from every publisher, but I find Berkley very selective. If you have high follower numbers on Instagram or TikTok, definitely put the links and numbers in your profile.

Often enough, yes. I know it is not personal ever, but I still feel sort of defeated every time it happens, oh well.

I feel you. Sourcebooks Fire is such a publisher for me currently. I don't know why, maybe because I once deleted my netgalley account on accident. Since then, they do always decline me :(

Weird right? Since I’ve reviewed quite a few books for Berkley thanks to Berit👍, Berkley has sent me a few widgets. Usually a genre that I don’t really read, but if I think I might like it, I take it. Just hoping that when I request a book, they might say yes.
How do people get auto-approved? Do you need to request it, or does the publisher reach out? I've only been doing this for a few months, so I'm in no rush, but just wondering.

But I'm just along for the ride right now.
I was sorta auto-approved by small Storm Publishing. They email me about a new book, and I have to log in via their link to download it in NG. If I see the book in my normal NetGalley view, it would make me request it like normal.

Auto-approvals are pretty rare, especially if you have a regular reviewer account (as opposed to a bookseller/librarian/etc. account). Don't hold your breath, and don't stress about not getting auto-approved!

That's a widget—the publisher giving you advance approval for a particular book. Widgets are book-specific (while auto-approval means you can read anything the publisher lists without having to request). Widgets are a lot more common than auto-approval, and if you're around and active long enough, you'll get more of them :)

Thank you :)
I have a new one,at least to me.I requested a book and it is just sitting in pending purgatory. I received an email from the publisher saying I expressed interest in King Sorrow….. and a link to the Goodreads giveaway. How to say you’re not getting approved without declining my request😂

So lately every book I request from Sourcebooks Fire gets like, instantly declined. I wonder what I am doing wrong. Before I deleted my old Netgalley account, they did approve every of my requests. Would you suggest reaching out to them maybe, to ask for the reason?

I had two books recently in 'pending' even after one of them was published. I wish they'd even decline it rather than just leave it there!!!!
