YA Fantasy series about a flooded world and talking dog?? Heard of books 2010-2016.

hey all, I have been thinking of this series for years and can never find what it is. I haven't read the books themselves, but the plots online. I can't remember too much but I know I heard of the series between the years of 2010 and 2016. my best guess is the series is YA fantasy, and it starts off normal, but one book in particular gets very weird, where the characters end up on a snowy mountain, I think the world floods, and they gain superhuman abilities. also I think a dog can now talk. or was a scientist who was turned into a dog. its very strange and I wish I could remember more. the first novel might have been adapted into a movie, which made it catch my attention but it's been so long I don't really remember.

The part about the dog talking reminds me of Alex, the Dog and the Unopenable Door by Ross Montgomery, especially your mention of the dog possibly being a scientist as that is roughly what happens with the dog in this book.
