I read a book in the 1980s that was set in the 1960s in America. It was about a teenage girl who went off the rails after she got pregnant .She ran away from home and lived with a group of runaway girls. When she had the baby the girls looked after the baby together .
This is all I can remember about the story, but I do remember that it was a book that I enjoyed reading at the time. I have tried to find the book online , but when I type in the description , I am sent links to another book called `Baby Love' by Jaqueline Wilson. This is not the same book.

Did you read this book in the UK?

That should narrow the field a bit. Young Mother fits your time frame, but I don't know if the details match.

Was the girl in a home for unwed mothers? Or did she run away from home and then wind up with the other girls some other way? From your description, I was picturing a communal house.

Getting Free is about a teenage couple who go on the run together once they find out the girl is pregnant. She's not on her own, but they do wind up at a commune.

Fortune's Daughter has some similarities, is set in the US, and was published in England in the '80s.
