Drace (dracenines) | 7409 comments The international paperback edition of the novel Bat Eater has been incorrectly given a Goodreads-only ASIN by the bot because the ASIN field was not filled in with the ISBN-10. This is against Goodreads policy, which says that if a book has a numerical ISBN-10, it should also be put in the ASIN field. Goodreads librarians unfortunately cannot move/remove ISBNs and ASINs, but when I have previously asked Goodreads staff to correct this same issue on other books, they have misunderstood the steps they need to take and caused further errors with the book. As such, could a superlibrarian please take the following steps?

1. Use the ACE creation feature to move the ISBN-10 1399729810 and ISBN-13 9781399729826 from this edition to a newly created edition: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

2. Ensure that the ISBN-10 1399729810 is also in the ASIN field on the newly created edition.

3. Merge the new edition with the older edition to ensure that the ISBN-10 is also in the ASIN field when completely merged. The correct metadata for the edition should be as follows:

TITLE: Bat Eater
AUTHOR: Kylie Lee Baker
ISBN-10: 1399729810
ISBN-13: 9781399729826
ASIN: 1399729810
PUBLISHER: Hodder & Stoughton
DATE PUBLISHED: January 14, 2025
NUMBER OF PAGES: 9

DESCRIPTION:
BAT EATER follows a biracial woman haunted by both her own inner trauma and hungry ghosts as she's entangled in a series of murders in NYC's Chinatown. Mexican Gothic meets She is a Haunting in this sharp novel that explores harsh social edges through the lens of the horror genre.

Cora Zeng is a crime scene cleaner. But the bloody messes don't bother her, not when she's already witnessed the most horrific thing possible: her sister being pushed in front of a train.

But the killer was never caught, and Cora is still haunted by his last words: bat eater.

These days, nobody can reach Cora: not her aunt who wants her to prepare for the Hungry Ghost Festival, not her weird colleagues, and especially not the slack-jawed shadow lurking around her doorframe. After all, it can't be real - can it?

After a series of unexplained killings in Chinatown, Cora believes that someone might be targeting East Asian women, and something might be targeting Cora herself.

Soon, she will learn . . . you can't just ignore hungry ghosts.

David Raz (davidraz) | 12760 comments What you're asking for won't work.

In step 1, you ask us to "use the ACE creation feature to move the ISBN-10 1399729810 and ISBN-13 9781399729826 from this edition to a newly created edition." This automatically moves the ASIN as well.

Then, in step 2, you ask us to "Ensure that the ISBN-10 1399729810 is also in the ASIN field on the newly created edition." That won't be possible—the ASIN moved in step 1 will block it.

I think you're chasing ghosts here. An incorrect ASIN value doesn't hinder readers in any way, and there are much better ways to spend time.

If you insist, the only way forward is to contact support.

Drace (dracenines) | 7409 comments It does appear that I misunderstood an aspect of the Goodreads-assigned ASINs. With all the talk about how they're so immutable that not even Staff can move or remove them, I assumed that if an ACE was created, a Goodreads-only ASIN would stay on the edition it was assigned to regardless of the ACE moving data. Thanks for correcting me, definitely useful information to have going forward.
