"As he looked up into the ink-black sky, he screamed at the top of his lungs as a plea for someone to hold him back. Someone who could hold him up and comfort him. Someone who could assure him that this wasn’t his last chapter and that he still could author the scripts of his own happiness."
The Shards of Silence by Jalees. Do check it out.
p.s. you can find the sample there at Amazon. Let me know if you need any more information regarding it :)
The Shards of Silence

Omg i rlly need to read that one, I absolutely loved the first book 🥹

The POV keeps switching between the past, a little further ahead in the future (but also still in the past), as well as the footnotes describing things from a third pov (a translator from way in the future) is genuinely grating on my every nerve but I've started it and am too stubborn not to finish it.
Mainly sticking it out because I want to see if two characters end up together (enemies to friends atm but there's tension and I'm BEGGING for them to become lovers) and the only way to know the answer is to keep going.
On the bright side, I've heard book 2 is way better, so there may be hope yet.
