A good number of titles that are already on the group shelf qualify.

Famously, the planet Anarres from The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin is described as having precious little on the way of flora and fauna, at least on land.

The entire Expanse series is focused, amidst all the politicking, on the fact that everywhere on the Solar system is deadly for people except Earth, and even that isn't looking good.

The planet Gethen in The Left Hand of Darkness is undergoing an ice age.

Oh obviously The Road, set on an Earth without biosphere.

I'm surprised that Dune and The Martian weren't on the list. Those are two of the harshest, well-described environments I can think of.
