Review:
I always enjoy diving into this world. Sometimes it's oddly like putting on comfortable slippers, despite the sometimes gruesome murders, like in this one. They weren't so much bloody as heavy on the psycho element. The duel between the police and the federal agents was fun in this one, though maybe a tad too caricature-ish. Not that this fact took any of the enjoyment away. At least there was a good character to dislike in this one.

Review: God I love this series, and this book is like among the top 5 in the whole series for me. Nixie, the young girl who survives the massacre of her family, is a heartbreaker. She's just so strong in the face of the overwhelming grief she is feeling, it just gets me. And that scene in the morgue, oh my god. I dissolved right there. She was really the star of the story for me. I enjoyed the hunt for the bad guys, and of course, the scenes with Roark and Eve together are always wonderful. If any of the books ever get made into a movie, I vote for this one, hands down.

On the plus side, it's also about half the size haha.

Nice! Looking forward to your review; blurb sounds interesting and its quick grab all the more.

The filter denies me access to the site haha. Will stamp once I'm home tonight :-)

The page count and publisher are from the edition I linked above but the cover is no longer that one. The new edition is also on GR (minus page count) so I'm switching to that one.
Neither really matters anyway as it's enough pages, one way or another, and both editions have keys on cover. :-)

My Review:
Three books in and I'm still not sure exactly how I feel about this series. There are bits and characters I like, but there are still those I don't. It's a quick, easy read, but sometimes things wrap up too easily. I was happy to learn more about Jordan and his relationship with Sienna; she finally seems to be accepting his choices and the reality of how it would've played out if things had gone differently in the previous book.
“Bah, blood is blood, but choosing your family, there be strength and true bonds in that too. Sometimes more.”I'll continue on, at this point, because I now need to know how things play out in all territories.

Sounds a bit like House of Night for me ;-)
Seems like a shame though for the Alpha Territories series? I enjoy her Rylee Adamson books.

I don't know. I like these, but something's just not clicking for me. I liked her Black Hat series (my husband liked them too) and I read Elemental, but not all of Rylee, and Nix. Guess that's another reason why I'm sticking with this one - hoping it's a me/mood thing. #3 was the last in the vampire trilogy, next begins the werewolf set, might like them better? We'll see.

Shelf #3 ~ 12 Mar: B - Boyfriend / booktok
Requirement: Choose a book using one of the following options ...
* For Boyfriend, read a book featuring a book boyfriend, featuring a solo male on the cover or 'boy' in the title or series name
* For booktok, read a book from the following shelf: GR booktok
I’ll be keeping on with Alpha Territories.
1 person shelved @ booktok: https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve...

Not sure yet what I'll read, but maaaaaybe I'll go with Roarke for this shelf ;-)
I'm still in the mood for In Death. The one book wasn't enough this time around. (I usually read one a year, which isn't doable in the long run or I'll be 100 years old and still not finished with the series haha.)
For Vampires, I might also switch to Rylee Adamson, as it's a quicker read. Because I also need to fit in my bookclub read next week and that is definitely not something that I can make in any way fit for Bingo hehe. Otherwise I'll be running too far behind again, which is no good. But I'll decide on everything this weekend after I'm done with the Flower Bride.

“I usually read one a year, which isn't doable in the long run or I'll be 100 years old and still not finished with the series haha.”
So with ya there! 😂 I often wonder if I’ll ever make it up to whichever’s current, but I’m still enjoying the ride.

Same - I adore this series. I really wish there was a movie or tv series in the works - it would be so amazing to see the stories on screen.

Review:
Oh man, I had forgotten how much I loved the first book in this series until I picked this one up. Such a great retelling of Cinderella, I actually preferred this version over the Disney one. Ember is no maid waiting for a man to rescue her from her dreadful circumstances - she's bound and determined to save herself! In fact, Prince Franco is kind of an ass when she first meets him, which was hilarious. In fact, there were a ton of spots in the story that cracked me up. Highly recommend this if you like stories with fae characters.

You know he doesn't need to be on the cover. The book just needs to feature a book boyfriend and Roarke is always in the stories, so... :-)

That is a very good question hehehe.
Enjoying the ride and not think about the many, many books ahead is probably the best thing to do! And they are good fun! :-)

Would love to see it on the screen, but at the same time I'm so scared that film makers (let's face it, Hollywood...) would ruin the characters and maybe cast the wrong actors :-/

As Eldarwen said, no need for Roarke to be on the cover, just in the story.
In fact, I don't think there are any In Death books with Roarke on the cover, I can't even remember seeing Eve.

Book: Venom in the Veins by Jennifer Estep

How it fits: Gin's boyfriend Owen Grayson is kinda cool... supportive no matter what kind of trouble she gets into, accepts her for who she is, a hunk, violet eyes, knows how to use his hands... need I go on? ;-)

I'm way behindd on Elemental Assassin. I can't binge those - too many info dumps. Then I forget to go back to it.

My Review:
This was my favorite book in the series so far. It's the first in the 'werewolf trilogy' within the overall 'Alpha Territories' series. This installment focuses on Diana, the Queen of the werewolves. She, two vampires (Nicholas of Southwind and Raven; each with special abilities) and Myrr, the oracle head into the human world in search of a stolen gem and the man who took it and Diana's heart so many years ago.
Men were fickle, they were liars and they would take as they pleased with no concern to a woman’s heart. The push/pull between Diana and Raven throughout was entertaining. I look forward to seeing how their relationship progresses in the remaining two installments. Raven remembers an event from his past and with those memories comes a better understanding of his feelings for Diana. She remains cautious after her past dealings with Maverick.

You know he doesn't need to be on the cover. The book just needs to feature a book boyfr..."
Well shoot, no I didn't realize that. Oh well. The book I picked ended up being really good too. But I'll definitely remember that for next time. 😊

Review: I have been waiting for *years* for this book to come out. I had actually given up hope, so I was super excited but also kind of scared when it finally showed up on my kindle, worried that it wouldn't be as good as I was hoping. But I shouldn't have worried because it was pretty darn excellent! Cai is young, only 19, but has had a really rough life. Riley is the FBI agent who was assigned as protection detail for Cai and his mom. (long and convoluted story from the first book). Anyway, Cai has issues, but one thing he is always clear on is his love for Riley. Riley of course refuses to get involved since Cai is almost 10 years younger than he is. This story focused pretty intently on the relationship between them rather than getting lost in the twisty plot details, which I really liked. This was another one where I couldn't put it down and ended up reading through the night. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was that there are a few editing errors. I'm hoping that the fact that this book is finally published means the author has broken through their writer's block and we will get the next book fairly soon.

I'm way behindd on Elemental Assassin. I can't binge those - too many info dumps. Then I forget to go back to it."
I find the info dump isn't too bad in the later books. The first ones were worse in that respect, just like her tendency to repeat surnames all the time. That got better over the course of the series as well.

Review:
This book follows much the same recipe as a lot of the previous books in the series but this reliable kind of story-telling is sometimes just the thing one needs. Gin's past comes back to haunt her, her battle with the Circle is still ongoing and Hugh Tucker is making my head brim with theories on why he is behaving the way he does. That alone would be reason enough to continue with the remaining two books of the series, but I like the cast of characters and will be saddened once I've finished the last book.

That's good to know it'll stop/improve. I'm only up to #4, so still in the land of dumps. 😝

Aaaand with a bit of luck I'll be done with my next book before then as well so hopefully we can even add two stamps ;-)

Review:
Magical Realism and I don't always go well together, but this book makes it very clear from the beginning that this story is not one of those realistic sounding stories where suddenly "magical realism" turns it all onto its head and makes the reader go "huh?!". It's a fairy tale story with gothic elements so intricately woven together that it is at times hard to discern what is real and what isn't.
The very first chapter had me hooked by mentioning the legend of Melusina - the most famous of Luxembourgish myths. It is not one I have ever come across in a book and I loved that here it made an appearance. So, so many fairy tales and myths are referenced, some of which are well-known, others not so much. Some are explained in a little detail, others are left for the reader to either know or research.
The writing flowed beautifully and wove the story of a husband who promised not to look into his wife's past (knowing full well, just like the reader, that the promise will be broken) alongside the story of two girls growing up together, thinking they are not of this world. Fairy tales and a nice touch of gothic with more than just a hint of what broken childhoods can lead to. The combination made the story enchanting, sometimes terrifyingly so. There were moments where I wanted to hate the characters, moments where I wanted to pat them on the head and tell them all would be well, moments where I wondered if they truly believed all they said.
But I enjoyed the ride.

I stopped about 15% in WtMH. The writing was too flowery/poetry for me at the time. I'd had high hopes though, so I may try to return to it at some point if I get into the right mood for it.
