The Hunter’s Code 2 (The Hunter's Code #2) by Oleg Sapphire

Book: The Hunter’s Code 2 by Oleg Sapphire
Pages: 373
Date Read: Mar 16
Rating: 4 stars
How it Fits: Solo Male on Cover
Review:
This is a fun series that I bought on sale on Audible. Xander was a powerful Hunter with centuries of experience in his previous life. In his new life, he managed to get himself kicked out of his family with a fake death. Now he is living in his mother's country as a baron working on recovering her family's land and reputation while strengthing himself by clearing rifts of monsters. Love the world building. The book is fast paced with plenty of humor although some of the humor is more juvenile than funny. The MC, while a bit of a ladies man, is nontheless honorble and loyal to those few who earn his friendship or protection. Overall another fun and entertaining read. 4 stars

The Dark Healer #1 (The Dark Healer #1) by Alex Toxic

Book: The Dark Healer #1 by Alex Toxic
Pages: 329
Date Read: Mar 23
Rating: 4 stars
How it Fits: #1 in series
Review:
Prince Maximmillian Richter, leader of the Necromancer's Plan, had intended to take a 50 year nap to give his body a chance to break down the corrupted energy he had absorbed to protect his people. Instead, he wakes 1000 years later to discover that someone had tampered with his coffin's runes. His castle and clan are gone, and the corrupted magic called the abomination that he had fought so hard to destroy and become widespread with its energy being used to power nearly all of the technology in the new world. Necromancers are long forgotten, and those with the gift are now considered healers because they can remove the corrupted magic from others and break it down within themselves. Max finds one descended in a house that used to be his stables, moves in, and begins to reestablish himself in the world. The world is intriguing, although I still have a lot of questions about it. The plot was well-paced, and I love the MC. He is confident, curious, and a little arrogant; but easy to like and root for. If the next books in the series go on sale, I'll be certain to buy them. 4 stars

Carrots (Shelby Nichols, #1) by Colleen Helme

Book: Carrots by Colleen Helme
Date Read: Mar 28
Rating: 3.5 stars
How it Fits: #1 in series
Review:
I did enjoy this story. Shelby is grocery shopping after work and a bank robbery happens at the grocery store. She is injured by a bullet. As a result of the injury she can now read minds.
Her husband is a lawyer and works with a gal named Kate. Kate is wanting to have Shelby's husband for herself. There are gangsters/mob bosses involved, a cute cop and a meddling mother. Lots of sub stories happening and potential for spin off stories. It was a good read and I will probably pick up the next in the series.

My Wild Irish Dragon (Boston Dragons Book 2) by Ashlyn Chase
Book: My Wild Irish Dragon
Date Read: Mar 29
Rating: 4 stars
How it Fits: Solo Male on Cover
Review:
New author to me. Really enjoyed this read. #2 in the series so reading out of order but ordered #1 from the library as I enjoy the writing and the banter between characters.
Ryan and Chloe both apply for a position with Boston Fire Department. They are both shifters but neither one knows of the other. Chloe is a a Dragon and Ryan is a Phoenix. Chloe is from an ancient family in Ireland and came to Boston with her brother. My only disappointment with the story was the lack of character shifting. There is romance, family drama and humor. A great quick read.

Book: Passions in Death by J.D. Robb
Pages: 363
Date Read: Apr 1
Rating: 3 stars
How it Fits: Tagged 43x as Owned
Review:#59 in the series and it's yet another good addition. As has been the evolution, it's mostly procedural and the deductive process to find the killer. We see more of Eve and Roarke. Compared to others, fairly slower-pace with more time for their relationship. I did make me want to read the first few books up till their marriage.

Book: Balanced on the Blade's Edge by Lindsay Buroker

Date Read: Apr 4

How it Fits: Female on Cover and written by a female author
Review:Always on the lookout for good fantasy romances - and this fit the bill with the extra that it was shorter compared to the other books. The premise was intriguing - but the recent trend of 40 year olds feeling like at least a decade younger has to stop. The world is interesting but it is not developed enough. Of course the obvious question - how can a human after 300 years hibernation still have great muscles and not atrophy? But I will definitely be continuing the series.

Date Read: Apr 4
Rating: 4.5 stars
How it Fits: Female on Cover and written by a female author

Reiew: Loved this story. The first in a time travel series. Kendra Donovan is an FBI profiler and is a prodigy. Her parents decided to make a super baby. She is chasing a terrorist with her team and she ends up in 1815 in England. She ends up investigating a serial killer. This is really good with lots of information about forensic science techniques, history of some serial killers. A mix of historical fiction, murder mystery with current day forensic techniques. There is a bit of romance which I am sure will continue as the series progresses. There are six books in the series and I believe it does wrap. Have the second book loaded and ready to go.

Descendant of Chaos (Descendants, #1) by M. Sinclair

Book: Descendant of Chaos by M. Sinclair
Pages: 230
Date Read: Apr 6
Rating: 3.5 stars
How it Fits: Female on Cover and written by a female author
Review:
This is the first book in M. Sinclair's Descendant series. Nova has lived a sheltered life in her father's house and coven until the day a group of 6 mages arrive and turn her world upside down. Now Nova must uncover the secrets of the man who raised her as well as the secrets of her own past. On the plus side, the world created is interesting and well thought out. Nova's character is well developed, but there are just too many male characters so they end up feeling two-dimensional. The overall plot is intriguing, but it sometimes gets drowned out by rambling internal character monologues and romance. I would enjoy the book more is it leaned more toward the fantasy elements instead of the romance. Overall 3.5 stars and interesting enough to try the next book.

Review: I'm pleasantly surprised by this book. I've read only one other book by this author and it was an ok read. This was a much better read. It also features an interesting twist - a witch with another witch as a familiar. While this book is set in Australia, I didn't get that much of an Australian setting/vibe from it. That was disappointing. The setup is interesting and I can guess where some of the threads will go to. I will be definitely continuing the series.

Lucy is still coming to terms with going from human to werewolf and accountant to alpha and trying to find a way to win over the pack when her biggest challenger is found dead in his room at the pack house. She and her second begin unraveling all the secrets in the deceased life as they search for the murderer.

Love the other realm word set up and how well developed it is. The characters are full of life and depth. The plot is well balanced between action, character development, and description of setting making it possible to lose oneself in the pages. Overall 4 stars.

Book: The Longing of Lone Wolves
Pages: 468
Date Read: Apr 15
Rating: 4.5 stars
How it Fits: MPG Shapeshifters
Review: This was a surprise! A great read. A Fated mates story. Rush is a fae and a wolf shapeshifter. Clarke is a human and has Seer powers. Story starts with Clarke waking up in a strange world that has suffered an atomic winter. She had been a con artist/grifter of sorts in Las Vegas. Rush is to protect the fae world from humans. The synopsis says The Witcher meets Beauty and the Beast and that is so spot on. A really good read, great world building and interesting magic system. Definitely going to continue with this series!

How it Fits: Jumps perspectives between Vegas and all of her men
Review:
The world created here is well-done and interesting although much darker than some of the other books I've read by this author. I enjoyed the overall plot, but just didn't reel that the story flowed as well. Ten guys in a harem is too many; and even with all of them getting chapters from their viewpoint, the men and two dimensional and not well developed. The amount of internal monologue seemed to be a lot higher and honestly detracted from the overall story. It peaked my interest enough to finish the series, but I'm unlikely to reread the series. 3 stars

How it Fits: read a book on the following shelf: GR queen

Review: I found this to be an enjoyable and quick read once I delved into the story. It is a young adult tale featuring them as potential rulers of Faerie occasionally felt convincing. The narrative begins three girls residing in the mortal world. Mardoc, the father of the eldest sister, Vivi, appears and kills their parents. The girls are then taken to Faerie, where they are raised in the Seelie Court. The story includes the customary Seelie Court intrigues and concludes with a setup for the next installment in the series.

Book: Apocalypse Redux, Book Six (Apocalypse Redux #6) by Jakob H. Greif
Author: Jakob H. Greif
Rating: 4 stars
Date Read: April 27
How it fits: X in title
Review:

Isaac continues to press forward with his goal of preventing the apocalypse on multiple fronts in book 6 of the series. While the bulk of this installation deals with taking down a cult trying to cause the apocalypse, which provided a lot of the action in the story. The craziness of the monkey king character and the chapters written from the viewpoint of one of his military trainees added enough levity and humor to balance the tone of the book to keep it from growing too dark. It has great world and rpg development, a good balance of action and humor, and plenty of well-developed and entertaining characters. I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys litrpg. 4 stars.

I find it frustrating that the evidence of her dead mother's involvement keeps cropping up, but the family just explains it away. Still a fun mystery overall. 4 stars
