R27 Team #8 ~ The Wicked Chapter

I'm still struggling through the shelf 3 book and it's so slow going. I think I'm not dark romance kind of girl

If you still don't like it after that, I recommend you change books, life's too short to read a genre you don't like. This challenge is meant to be fun.
PS: I don't like it too dark either.

Review: This is the prequel to the Hunger Games and follows Haymitch Abernathy's story as he shares his 16th birthday with the reaping. They picked four tributes from each district for the special Quarter Quell, 24 years prior to Katniss and Peta's book. The Good: The writing, the world that SC built, and getting the backstory on Haymitch. I knew with Haymitch's drinking that it was bad and that was how he coped, but we get to see what created the character of the man we met in the Hunger Games. The not so good: Basically the same plot, reaping, displaying tributes for entertainment at the capitol, training, games and death, twice the death. A lot of references to Edgar Allan Poe stories... A lot...
Overall, it was a very good book. Just a very hard read because you knew it wasn't going to be pleasant. A lot of suffering and evil went into this world and it was truly bad on Haymitch and his loved ones. This one definitely hurts the heart as you become invested in the characters. Listened in audio format, very good.

This is the Scarred Earth Saga, but its in the Dragon Kin universe, even though its on the other side of the world. We get hints of this when characters mention places and tribes, and the human queen of the Dragons. Love that!
Our blacksmith queen, comes from a long line of blacksmiths (mothers side of the family) and her father is a former soldier and now farmer.
Keeley is the eldest of 12 kids, and has been taught that family is everything, which makes it hard when one of them turns out to be a soulless, treacherous would be murderer.
Instead of dragons, this side of the world is populated with centaurs, dwarves, elves, demon wolves and various others.
When it becomes obvious that Keeley is going to have to be the next queen, to save everyone she loves and cares about, the story turns into a quest.
The BQ is full of the usual snarky heroine that doesn't need saving by handsome centaurs, and is full of humour and fun. Also lots of bloody battles and a light touch of romance.

Review: This is the first book in the YA series Throne of Glass and primarily follows a young assassin Celaena, whose family was destroyed by the King. She has been caught and sentenced to a prison mine, and barely surviving. She has been summoned to represent the Crown Prince in a competition for the role the king's champion. She can only win if she defeats a couple dozen warriors, killers & thieves and the evil that has accompanied them. The good: Liked the characters, the worldbuilding was interesting. I liked the main characters spunk and determination. The not so good: Love triangle, silly politics, and my personal preference is not YA books. I really liked SM's A Court of Thorns and Roses series, and was hoping this one was as good without all the YA angst. This series didn't grab me like the Court series did, but was okay. I will probably hold off on the rest for now. I listened to the audiobook format and it was good.

I really hate how I miss books now. I even started keeping an excel spreadsheet of release dates, authors I consistently read, and series I like. But It didn't use to seem so hard to get notifications and alerts when books come out from your favorite authors and series... Maybe its a combination of GR changes, the loss of FictFact, and me. I just seem to miss new releases all the time, especially new series.

Cain, immortal, one of 7 Ancients in charge of Devil's Cradle, cannot get enough of Wynter Dellavale, Priestess of her coven of misfits & crazies.
The Ancients are trapped in the DC by the Aeons (one of whom is his brother Abel), when they lost the millennium-ago war. The only way to escape is to kill the Aeons who did the spellwork: Adam, Abel & Saul. The hatred between the two groups is REAL.
Cain, is reluctant to expose his secrets to Wynter but as time goes on he is increasingly anxious to protect her as he knows she is the one who makes him feel alive and keeps him sane.
Various plots are hatched to lure the Aeons to DC, and Saul makes an appearance and tries killing Cain & Wynter. Cain for killing Lailith in the previous book, and Wynter for cursing The Garden of Eden, the Aeons stronghold. There is war, skirmishes, immortality, betrayal, a visit from Cain's mother and death.
This series is not to be missed.

Still working on my Z book. Almost to the halfway point.

And I hope you are enjoying

Review: This is the first book in the Devil's Cradle series and Suzanne Wright has once again woven another complicated tale with all the hallmarks of her other series... This cast is made up of misfit supernats that have all the snark and odd powers that make them a super dangerous team to mess with. And their “not a priestess" is a powerful witch, Wynter. She is on the run from her former coven who has "exiled" her, but basically their attempts to execute her have failed. She seeks sanctuary for her coven in Devil's Cradle, which is lead by the Ancients and Cain… as in brother to Able…. And he wants Wynter in his bed.
The good: strong, bada$$ female, alpha males, crazy pants side characters, a lot of snark, humor, will to live, deathly battles and all. The not so good: lots of characters and info at the beginning was a bit much but at first. Definitely plan on continuing with the series. Audiobook was great.

Not sure what the issue is but I used to love JF books, but in the past couple of years I just cannot stick with them. I still have a couple of Night Huntress books left and I just cannot get into them. Bones and Cat used to be must reads for me. arggghhhhh

Not bad just couldn't get enthusiastic about them. I own them, just haven't read them. Sigh.
I'll be interested in what you think.

I'll be interested in what you think..."
I've read the first two, its hard to remember details... Hopefully I can get back in to it enough.
I'm also trying to get with it and plot out my E and Y books in case we have to do a quick read off... Looks like bingo may come faster than we think this round. If 'E' can hold off, I think Archangel's Ascension is a book that eye catching... :)

Jacky is hoping things will settle down & her pub will be rebuilt soon.
The Russian wolves have conflicting ideas, though they have no clue what they are getting into.
Jackie's twin, Gwen, is working at the Supernatural Hospital as a Doctor, and finds out sort of, what happened to Jacky 12 years ago. She does a bad thing then involves Jacky basically against her will, though she does agree it was ultimately a good thing.
So this episode involves, kissing not kissing, murder, kidnapping, more than kissing, sibling rivalries and talk of what is family, and lots of fighting.
Loved it.

I'll be back Friday night, my time. So just an overnight stay. I'm going to the Pompeii exhibit at the Museum, really looking forward to it :D

Review: This is the third book in the Ian / Night Rebel spinoff from the Cat & Bones / Night Huntress series and takes place in the Night Huntress World. Ian and his love Veritas are protecting the world from old gods / deities that escaped from the netherworld by tricking Veritas and Ian into opening the portal. Veritas and Ian, along with the gang, are in a race to save the world from all the disasters these gods are creating on earth in their quest to take it over and rule again. The good: Liked Veritas and Ian's relationship. He actually seems almost fun with her than the version we had in the Cat & Bones series. We get little glimpses of other characters from the other series set in the NH world too, including our favorite New Orleans, Marie. The not so good: not sure I am a fan of the gods/goddess layer. Interdimensional travel / parallel worlds and planes just ends up confusing and seems to distract from book plots for me. It tends to be a distraction from the storyline, and often turns a series into a DNF one. The audio was good and I think this is the last in the Night Rebel series so I feel all caught up.

Review: So it's the 3rd book in the series and I have read them one after another. I have to say this one was little predictable for me and that's why the 4 stars. So Charles is having some ghost issues, so of course Anna is sent to help the FBI with a 20 year old cold case, because the victims are werewolves. And Charles of course is going with her and of course she gets kidnapped by the bad guys and Charles saves her and also helps himself with the ghost problem. I don't know, it was nicely written and I did enjoy it, but I wish I didn't see it coming so easily.
