Hi Val, I was at the Reds and when left the Swans were about 30 up. I knew the Swans did not go well judging from the looks of other friends at the Reds who were on a vow of secrecy, but they looked smug. And so it proved when I got home at 10 and watched the match. Never mind they will improve but new coach takes some time. Heaney looked very forlorn. We need to improve quickly in order to get Chad Warner to extend his contract along with his bro.
This week and sorry for being a little late...

I thought you would be at the rugby. Swans need to get their forward line sorted. Amartey runs hot and cold, McCartin is better in defence than attack, and McDonald and McLean aren't reliable either. Too much depends on the small forwards and mid-field. No chance Warner would want to go to either of the Perth clubs surely?
We have a first next weekend when we are having a special night for our dear departed Garry. The last act of his will was leaving money for 20 of his best rugby mates to attend a match in a corporate box at Suncorp. Troy his closest rugby friend has organised this for next Friday evening to attend the Broncos v Dolphins in which will be my first ever Rugby League match live apart from a couple of Origins I attended in Sydney. It will certainly be my wife's, Victoria, to whom I am trying to explain the differences, first league match. Garry set aside funds for not only the box but all food and drink. After the game we will amble to the Caxton Pub to toast Garry in what was a ritual for him in both League and Union. Maybe then off to the infamous Sporties to really complete the night. Just as well the Swans have a bye and a Friday night.

Tonight's result:Western Bulldogs (Tazz) v Collingwood Magpies (available)
3.4.22 (Q1) 2.4.16
6.7.43 (Q2) 5.8.38
7.9.51 (Q3) 8.11.59

Heartbreaking for the Dogs. Collingwood is a top team - viz their performance last week. The Doggies are without Bontompelli, Weightman, Treloar, Ugle-Hagan and more but boy did all their journeymen players step up tonight. How good was Khamis?? And Richards? And Davidson? I am a huge fan of Bailey Dale - an absolute rock. And any team in the league would give an arm and a leg for Libba. They all played their hearts out and no one would have begrudged them a win, or at the very least a draw. Collingwood will know they met a very tough opponent this week and they will feel it in their next game. Bad luck Doggies - you deserved this one.

Well 12 hours or so, but yeah i know what you mean. I keep forgetting that the early part of season have Thursday games, despite Val trying her best to point that out in bold capitals! Must do better! Hard luck with your Doggies today, i didn't get to follow the game, but looked a close game.
Hi Duke. Mmmm, the umpiring was disgraceful, oppo teams and players have called it out as the most disgraceful display of biased umpiring they have ever seen. They awarded the Pies 19 free kicks more than the dogs. I actually watched Pendles get a free and nobody even touched him! Mathew Loyd labelled it an utter disgrace and others actually called for an investigation into it! Its hard at times following the footy knowing the level of corruption in the AFL and the stacking that goes on behind the scenes for or against a team. You should see the footy forums today and what even people who hate the Dogs have to say about last night. The general consensus is it was 100% a stacked game. Last night reminded me of the stacked grand final Collingwood vs Bris Lions. That was a joke. Collingwood was no ifs robbed by corrupt umpiring. It was farcical!

I know that they're one of the biggest clubs and have a large following...yet the equally have a lot of hate for that club too!
Today's results:Essendon Bombers (Val) v Adelaide Crows (available)
3.2.20 (Q1) 5.5.35

Hi Jed, how are you going and hope you are enjoying life and work is good? Do not know what has happened to weather though. Still unsettled after the cyclone. You have to make a game to see the Lions as Val is quite right, the atmosphere at a live AFL game is the best experience in all codes of Aussie sport. Especially so, in tight matches. I am hoping to get to the Suns v Swans match in late April if I can work out logistics of making it by public transport. Really love a beer at the match.
Val, the match Sunday could have gone either way and I could see time running out until Amartey took a great mark to win it. Even then, they conspired to overturn the ball with seconds left leaving the Dockers another chance of entry to the 50m which they did but a second too late as the siren saved us with the ball in mid-air.
We do need to sort the forwards, but I have seen an improvement in Amartey this season and with more confidence can see him being a threat to the opposition. McDonald is still injured but one back I think we will be ok. The SMH focussed on Jordan this morning naming him as a major tagger keeping key opposition quiet in all games so far. Cox is said to be very pleased with his performances so far.

I don't know about you, but I used to get an email saying there was a message waiting for me in Goodreads. No more, I'm afraid.Like many other services (MyGov, for one), you have to actively go looking to see if there are any messages for you. I don't always notice if there's a new message for me so I don't blame you for missing mine.

Must be so hard to be both diplomatic and modest in those particular circumstances. I was trying to think which, if any, current Bombers players, apart from Merrett, would be desirable on today's market. Ridley, Draper, Kako, Durham, McGrath, Caldwell, Langford??? I take comfort in knowing that they are one of the youngest teams in the league but players like Cox, Jones, Hobbs, Perkins have had a fair bit of experience now but don't seem to be able to make that leap to elite level.
