"BALL UP!" - Val's 2025 Aussie Rules Footy Tipping *Open to Everyone*
A couple in this lot that could go the other way, Suns being one, and poss. GWS failing to break their derby drought, heck....maybe even the Tigers getting the hat trick against the wobbly Maggies! Also, Carlton's Sam Docherty is retiring after tonight's game, so maybe the Blues might pull a rabbit out the bag again as a send off to him? That said.....it's hard to go against the favs, with one exception. Thus:Round 20:
Hawks - 22pts
Bulldogs
Giants
Suns
Dockers
Cats
Crows
Magpies
Saints
Suzy's tips:Carlton by 7

Tonight's result:Hawthorn Hawks (available) v Carlton Blues (available)

12.4.76 (Q3) 7.4.46
13.7.85 (Q4) 9.7.61
Hawthorn came out fighting and that c30 point margin pretty much stayed the same for the whole game. Carlton had flashes of intent but not enough to overcome the Mighty Fighting Hawks. Duke wins $8.00 for the Centre For Eye Research Australia as he was only 2 points off the margin. Congrats.
Yeah thanks for that!Worse still, I forgot the Swans/Giants game was on at the same time and I sat through 4 quarters of the Dogs smashing the Bombers. And Ridley endures another hammy scare and young Smartt (in his second game) also hobbled off.
Tonight's results:
Essendon Bombers (Val) v Western Bulldogs (Tazz)
2.2.14 (Q1) 6.5.41
2.5.17 (Q2) 10.5.65

14.12.96 (Q4) 8.10.58
Don't know what Adam Kingsley said to the players at half-time but that third quarter must have been amazing to watch. And the Swans scored a mere 8 points in the second half???
Thank you for putting my Punts in for me, Val ... I often have no awareness of what day of the week or even what month it is these days ... x
Darnit..i missed that game as well.....what a come back for my boys! Toby Greene might be in a bit of trouble....some unkind words spoken of Papley apparently...hope he doesn't cop a fine or worse, suspension.
It wasn't the sly dig at Tom Papley, rather the unnecessary force used against Isaac Heeney who was already on the ground following a Giants tackle.
Today's results:Gold Coast Suns (Suzy) v Brisbane Lions (Jed)

Some big scored this round, and across the board for a change. Both the games on the Gold Coast and in Adelaide were played in pouring rain. Made Melbourne look balmy in comparison where the Lions downed the Wallabies by 3 points. Apparently the Lions' final try was controversial; we'll have to wait for Tim's verdict. Bet Melbourne cops the rain tomorrow!
The Cats final score was 150 Val - 22.18.150 - 107 point margin smacking...those poor Roos! ! Cameron's Coleman award is looking the goods for him, having booted half the goals for the Cats today, that man is unstoppable! Port just gave up in their final quarter against the Crows.....and the glorious Suns finally broke their Qclash hoodoo. Brisbane's top 4 position on the ladder is looking precarious now.
Thanks Duke. I did know that because I'd already pencilled in the Cats as winning the highest score prize for this round and I knew the Kangas had had a late burst of goals to make it slightly more respectable on their part. Thanks for keeping me on my toes. The weather in Adelaide was atrocious - you felt sorry for all players but the Crows are so strong, especially now that Riley Thilthorpe seems to have overcome the injuries that plagued his early career. He's a man mountain now and with Tex Walker and Darcy Fogarty backing him up, they are making opposition teams pay. They will be rapt to be top of the table today (until Collingwood play).
Brisbane have got a fierce run home - away to Collingwood, home to Sydney, away to Fremantle and home to the Hawks. It's going to be interesting!!
Today's results:Richmond Tigers (Philip) v Collingwood Magpies (available)

Unbelievable! The Dees were up by 46 points at three-quarter time and I thought I could finalise our results. What happened??? Did they all turn to stone? The Saints laid on nine goals in the final quarter to the Dees' four points!!
Our tipsters' ladder is as follows:ROUND TWENTY (first number is correct number of wins - you want this to be high; number in brackets is the cumulative margin which is used to separate punters on the same amount of points - you want this to be low)

ROUND 21Western Bulldogs +15
Adelaide Crows
Melbourne Demons
Gold Coast Suns
Sydney Swans
Collingwood Magpies
St Kilda Saints
Geelong Cats
Fremantle Dockers
Had a special weekend in Melbourne at the British Lions match but just saddened all the talk is of one moment at the end of the game. I know where my feelings lie but this overshadows what was a magnificent game and it's a shame the press are still going on about it. Looking forward to Sydney this weekend despite the atrocious weather forecast. The atmosphere in Melbourne for a sport they do not follow was tremendous and the MCG was a wonderful place to be that evening and never heard such a vocal crowd, even when Collingwood are playing.
Tips this week start off with a tough one as Toby Greene has a one-week suspension. He has been their driving force for the last few weeks and will be missed.
Still
Giants by 15
Crows in another tight one
Demons
Suns
Swans
Pies ..... how many evenly matched games in one weekend?
Saints...and again!
Cats
Dockers
Round 21:GWS - 7pts (so hard to call, the only side the Bullies have beaten in the top 8, so much riding on this game for both sides...i'm going on faith that my lads can get over the line.)
Crows
Demons
Suns
Swans
Lions (the other club with much riding atm, they have to win this one to remain in the top 4)
Saints
Cats
Freo
Suzy's tips:Bulldogs by 7
Hawthorn
West Coast
Richmond
Essendon
Brisbane
North Melbourne
Port Adelaide
Carlton
My tips:Doggies x 9 (I'm swayed by Toby Greene's suspension, plus injuries to Josh Kelly and Jack Buckley, and the Dogs' desperate need to win, but I think I'll be barracking for the Giants because I love the way they play)
Crows (bigger, heavier bodies than Hawthorn)
Dees (must win after Sunday's debacle plus the Eagles are missing Harley Reid)
Suns (Tigers look like a threat in years to come but not this year and not at the Suns' home ground)
Swans (Essendon beyond hope, blooding their 14th debutante for the season, an AFL record! "Essendon’s injury crisis this season has gone from bad, to worse, to even worse, to rock bottom ... and now even worse." - this quote because of Jordan Ridley now out for the rest of the season.)
Pies (once again, it's the Lions I'll be cheering on but the Pies regain Bobby Hill, Jordan De Goey and Scott Pendlebury while the Lions have lost Conor McKenna and Kai Lohmann and ruck Oscar McInerney hasn't regained his 2024 form)
Saints (will be buoyed by Sunday's win - Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is a joy to watch - and should account for North without Tristan Xerri)
Cats (no excuses if they drop this home game against Port)
Freo (Carlton have been very disappointing this season and will be further weakened by the loss of Charlie Curnow and possibly Adam Cerra)
Hope all is well with Philip - this is the second week he hasn't shown. Maybe he's sunning himself on a Greek island???
Tonight's result:Western Bulldogs (Tazz) v GWS Giants (Duke)
6.5.41 (Q1) 1.2.8
12.9.81 (Q2) 3.2.20
16.13.109 (Q3) 6.6.42
19.18.132 (Q4) 6.7.44
Well he may have been out by 73 points but Steve was still the closest. Another $8.00 set aside for Backpack beds For Homeless. Well done!
Tonight's result:Adelaide Crows (available) v Hawthorn Hawks (available)
1.1.7 (Q1) 5.3.33
7.7.49 (Q2) 5.3.33
9.9.63 (Q3) 11.5.71
15.11.101 (Q4) 13.9.87
Cracker of a game! Hawks came out fighting and were 5 goals up before the Crows scored. Second quarter: Hawks couldn't buy a point, never mind a goal. Third quarter: Hawks come roaring back - everyone asking can you only score at one end?? Final quarter: Crows assert their dominance - looking ominous for finals and they have a good chance of earning a home final too.
Today's results:Melbourne Demons (available) v West Coast Eagles (Sussex)
3.5.23 (Q1) 1.2.8
6.7.43 (Q2) 3.3.21

7.3.45 (Q2) 7.4.46
8.5.53 (Q3) 11.6.72
10.5.65 (Q4) 14.8.92
Well the Demons have redeemed themselves, the Bombers weren't annihilated and tonight's game lived up to all expectations with great skill demonstrated by both teams. But I do like to see the Pies beaten so it was an even greater joy for me, despite me tipping the Maggies.
Collingwood have lost 3 of their last 4 games. It may be August but still time to bring out this song. The Coodabeen Champions' "When The Pies Tumble Down In July"
To the tune of Slim Dusty's "When The Rain Tumbles Down In July"
There's a sombre mood in the changeroom
The lockers, stand lonely and bare
There's a cloud hanging over The Chairman
Who would want to be a millionaire
Mick is giving another press conference
The daggers, they flash from his eyes

Chris Tarrant and Rocca are named

I will look at punt later. Thanks Sussex. Not great weekend in Sydney. Typically the trains to Olympic Park were not fully running meaning awful changes of trains required. Weather abysmal and services at ground diabolical. Sydney, and in particular just cannot organise these big games and yet in the World Cup in 2027, both semi-finals and final are scheduled to be held there with the magnificent Suncorp only getting one quarter final. Policing was as normal very heavy handed and what with the weather put a whole dampener on the series. Finally, a 2-and-a-half-hour flight delay Sunday night meant we got home just after midnight. What with the result a weekend to forget and that's before I start on the apartment we stayed in.
This week's AFL. I was sorry to hear about Simon Goodwin at the Demons and think he has been very unfairly treated given he won them their first Premiership in 75 years just 4 seasons ago. Is John Longmire returning to coaching?

Not going to Swans match Saturday as is my wife's birthday and will be passing ground around bounce time on way to "A Chorus Line" at QPAC with a couple of friends with dinner after. Duke said there would be upsets. What a great spectacle seeing the Pies fumble, drop marks, miss goals, etc etc.
Well done Anita! Another $8.00 for The Mirabel Foundation.
Great to see them stumble although they will probably point to the nasty injury sustained early on. Totally one sided though and the Pies will be dreading the Crows next week.Thank you, Val for Victorias birthday wishes. Yes, looking forward to it and we love going to events with Bill and Ian. Off to La Boheme with them next month. Both British but been here for many years and like us have a passionate love of France where Ian's dad lives. Hence the French meal tomorrow evening.

Thank you
