I had no doubts about Conklin; this information solidified my feelings. I was worried that both witnesses would be murdered.
I wondered why no one missed that bag when he was shot if he always had it with him. Having the EMT say Conklin was at the scene just nailed it for me. He was dirty and up to his neck in the deed or at the least a cover up. I was concerned for their safety too.
The case was just one convenient coincidence after another. The forgotten messenger bag, the witnesses who appear out of the woodwork, the formerly good cop who is suddenly corrupt - all of it feels contrived. I'm not a fan of the way Force resolved this storyline. There are also a couple of loose threads, like the house mentioned in a previous book where photos of Skip were found - this was never answered.
