Alice Hello! I come with a sort of "guilty pleasures" request.

Recently I watched a movie from 1997 that brought up a lot of nostalgia feels. It was beyond cheesy and the plot most likely would never happen in real life, but I'm looking for books with that same sort of feel. The movie in question was "The Beautician and the Beast". "A New York cosmetologist mistakenly thought to be a science teacher is offered a job to teach the children of an Eastern European dictator." *Don't judge me*

It put me in mind of another movie from 1999 called "Au Pair." It's just one of those cheesy feel good movies that I really liked back then. "A young MBA mistakenly taking the job of looking after a rich executive's spoiled children."

Another example would be the TV show "The Nanny" "After being fired from her job and dumped by her boyfriend, a cosmetics saleswoman becomes the nanny to the three children of a rich British widower. As time passes, the two fall for each other."

So of course in all these examples, the nanny/teacher/au pair falls in love with their employer (The father) Cheesy, without a doubt. But I am in the sudden mood for stories similar to this. Like in the young adult, new adult or adult categories, and an obvious romance book.

I just want them to be quick fun reads, but with a little depth, hopefully. Something you would read at the beach, but still be a book that gives you warm fuzzy feelings weeks after you've read it.

I am open to all romance sexualities, and gender roles, so it does not have to be female nanny/father. It could be the female nanny/mother. (Preferably the employer is a single parent. Not a huge fan of cheating)

Or male nanny/father. Male nanny/mother.

It does not have to be nanny/employer. It could be nanny/employer's over 18 year old child (Not a child the nanny would be "Watching")

It could also be babysitter type stories with a younger cast(teenage high school), but with the babysitter falling for the big brother/sister of the kids she is watching.

Does not have to be nannies or au pairs, per say. But I am in the mood for cute, cheesy romances with person and single father/mothers getting together, family blending and that sort of thing!

Series or stand alones are both fine.

HeavyReader | 450 comments Still on the nanny theme, but nonfiction and no romance with father, I recommend

You'll Never Nanny in This Town Again: The True Adventures of a Hollywood Nanny
by Suzanne Hansen

I recently read it. It's still pretty light, even though it's nonfiction.

If you want my copy, I can send it to you, if I can put my hands on it. (I left it at my sister's house, in a pile to be donated to Goodwill, so it might be gone before I get back over to her place in a week.)

If you want me to send it, email your address to me. If it's still around, I'll mail it to you some time before the end of April.

There's always The Nanny Diaries. Definitely a beach type read, although I can't remember anything about it.
