The Language of Secrets by Ausma Zehanat Khan – 4 Stars

I have wanted to read this second book in the series since really enjoying the first, which I got for free through Amazon. In this instalment, Detective Esa Khattak is called in by Canada’s intelligence agency to investigate the murder of one of their informants who had been working undercover. Working with his partner, Detective Rachel Getty, they begin to uncover both the potential reasons for Mohsin’s murder and the terrorist cell within the small-town mosque. I really liked the characters, themes and setting of this book, and whilst I have no idea how realistic it is with the plot being loosely based on real events in Toronto, it was a story that I just did not want to put down. I really liked seeing the partnership that Esa and Rachel have developed, and although the plot does move quite slowly, this allows the tension to build. I’m looking forward to continuing with this series soon.
