was anyone else extremely confused on how this book ended?

Towards the end of the book (spoiler), Velutha dies. Of course, it was absolutely tragic and I was heartbroken when I got to that chapter. However, after that heart-rending epoch, there's a reveal that Velutha and Ammu Ipe were sleeping together. After that reveal- which was written and worded a very specific way- theres a very similar scenario thats written very similarily to the one with Velutha and Ammu Ipe... Which is ultimately very ambiguous... Allegedly, Arundhati Roy wanted to describe the siblings (Estha and Rahel) relationship as less of a sibling relationship and more of one soul in two bodies. But did anyone else think that it read like a sex scene? Did this book end in incest?

i studied this book for my university and based on the discussion with my lecturer, yes, the book ended with incest
