Leann (TheBiblioTourist) (thebibliotourist) Hello I am not in my 20's but I am a college student. I am in my early 30's returning college student to finish my Bachelor's degree. I feel closer to the College student status for I am single and have no children. (So I hope you let me stick around) I love to read mostly Contemporary Fiction and Young-Adult fiction. some of my favorite reads for 2010 were Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins, The Mortal Instruments series by Cassie Clare, The Lies We Told by Diane Chamberlain. Some of my favorite authors are Karen White, Patti Callahan Henry, Cassie Clare, Rachel Hawkins, Mindy Starns Clark, etc.

Nikki Hi everyone! My name's Nikki, I'm 21 and I'm from Belgium. I'm currently studying Law at university, I'm in my fourth year now. It was a childhood dream of mine to become a lawyer (strange, I know :D), but now I'm not so sure what I want to do. There are so many interesting professions you can enter with a Law degree. My love of books has been the one constant throughout my life, it's really always been very important to me to read a lot. At the moment I'm mainly into the classics. I go through different phases in which I'm into a particular genre. I have a bookshelf with my all my favourites if you're interested, the list is a bit too long to get into here. I've been looking for a great group for a while and this seems to come pretty close. :)

Jen | 111 comments Hey! I use to post more in this group a while ago. Got really sidetracked and stopped for a while. Id like to get back into it.
My name is Jen. I am 24. I live in Philly, PA. Im going for my masters in medical technology.
I love music, bowling, drawing and reading!! Some of my favorite books are the great gatsby, the kite runner, the book thief and extremely loud and incredibly close.
Hope to spend more time around here posting and getting to know people :-)

AsimovsZeroth (asimovszerothlaw) Hey,

My name is Kathryn, Kat or K.C. depending on what people wish to call me. :) I'm 20 and live in Portland, Oregon. I'm currently an on and off college student - whenever I am able to get funds together for another round of classes. Currently I'm majoring in Project Management which can go several different ways on the career path, but the ones I'm currently considering are project business consultant and nonprofit management.

I have a passion for writing, but never seem to find time for it these days, as though I'm unemployed I end up selling a lot of things on ebay, amazon and etsy for other people. I'm never seen without at least three notebooks and three books I'm currently reading, although I usually end up reading anywhere from two to six books at a time.

I consider myself bi-sensual, hetero-flexible and life-curious. :) I met the love of my life while taking some of the basic degree requirements at a community college and after several years together we'll be moving into our own apartment within a few months, making life a little more busy and hectic.

I joined this group because I've been looking for a group that's easy to integrate into. I've found that in some groups I've been in, even if I become a regular poster there seems to be a cliche already in force and anyone new is often ignored.

I hope to get to know you all really well and develop some great friendships over the common interest we have of reading.

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Welcome to the group!

Jen, I loved the The Book Thief and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Kathryn, You can read six books at the same time? That's impressive! I usually stick to one or two books at a time.

It's probably my inability to pick just one or two. They're usually in different genres so that depending on what kind of mood I'm in I can pick heavier or lighter books. The problem with this, is that I carry these books around with me everywhere and that ends up to be a lot of extra weight!

message 409: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten Welcome, Kathryn! I'm glad there is another person on Earth who reads six books at once (I'm well known for it, it helps me concentrate on all of them).

And from Oregon? Fabulous. I recently graduated from school in Oregon. Welcome welcome.

message 410: by AsimovsZeroth (new)

AsimovsZeroth (asimovszerothlaw) Thanks Kirsten! I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who reads that many books at once. Usually when I explain why I have so many books with me I get blank stares or bemused expressions. I agree with you - reading more than one book helps me concentrate on all of them. Especially if I'm reading one or two really difficult books. I find that with a little space from the books, without rushing through them I end up thinking a lot more about each one.

What did you major in? With my focus on Project Management and an interest in computers I'm currently debating on whether ITT Tech or PSU would be the best option for me. Not that I have the money for a term right now, but hopefully that will change soon.

message 411: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten Me too. But they're just jealous that we can keep track of everything all at once ;)

I majored in environmental science, but I went to school in Salem. Used to row against PSU all the time, though.

Nicole (nkb992) | 35 comments Hey! I'm Nicole from Virginia. I'm 18 and a freshman in college. About to start my second semester. I can't believe I survived the first one! Haha :) I'm so excited to join this group and talk about books!

Also: Nullifidian, last semester I took a Principles of Sociology class and absolutely loved it. I hope you do as well!

message 413: by alyssa (last edited Dec 29, 2010 02:17PM) (new)

alyssa (alyssalyn) Hi, everyone! I just joined. :) I'm Alyssa (or Mirry), 20 years old, living outside of Pittsburgh PA. I'm starting at a new school next month, and am going to be studying art, though I eventually want to focus more on art history.

I've always loved reading, but within the last year or two I have really lost my passion for it. I'm constantly buying books and trying to get myself to read more. I'm hoping this site will be able to encourage me to do that!

Things I enjoy other than reading are: photography, art, video games, fashion. I'm extremely interested in other cultures and some religions (though I am not a religious person). I love foreign films and music, and I'm very much in love with Leonardo Dicaprio.

My favorite books are The Great Gatsby, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Asleep, Kamikaze Girls, Women of the Silk, Great Expectations, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Nice to meet you all! :)

message 414: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nkb992) | 35 comments Nullifidian, are there any sociology books you suggest? I was thinking about reading one in the near future but I'm not really sure where to start.

message 416: by mechi (new)

mechi (ma_bouche_espagnole) | 1 comments Hello, I'm Mechi and I'm absolutely brand new to Goodreads. I have been an avid reader my entire life (I was the third grader carrying such a big stack of books out of the library that I couldn't even see over the pile), but lately I seem to have lost touch with books with the snowball of school and other activities that seem to have taken over my life. So I have consciously been trying to pick up more books, re develop a bookshelf collection, and generally read about 100 times more than I had been.

I'm a film major in my first year of college with plans to direct films, but my passion, although I'm not actively studying it, has always been writing. I want to write my own films and be able to subsequently produce them with the skills that I am now learning in school. And at the root of that love for writing has always been reading.

As I said, I'm brand new so I don't really know my way around yet, but I'm very excited to get to talk about books, hear about more books to read, and meet some fellow book lovers!

message 417: by Leanna (new)

Leanna Keist Hello, I'm Leanna and am new-ish to Goodreads. I created a new account to try and keep myself a bit more organized/accountable for what I'm reading! I, like most of you, have always loved to read. Unfortunately, with the stress of school, I have not been able to read as much of what I want to read...last semester I took two novels classes (which was a HUGE mistake) so although I'm a total bibliophile, I probably haven't read even 50% of what's on my bookshelves. :S

I'm a senior in college (going to be a second year senior due to my transfer status/change in major) and am an English major with a 19th century studies and Business double minor. After school I would like to get into the editing and publishing business and eventually open up my own YA publishing house. Unfortunately, this business is difficult to get into, so the backup plan is to go to grad school and either teach college-level English or go into professional writing. If the publishing house does not happen, I would like to open up my own used book store/craft shop and do freelance editing. I basically just want to get paid to read all the time. :)

Aside from reading, I also enjoy crafts of all types--I sew, knit, crochet a little, embroider, cross stitch and am getting into altered art--and I want to learn to spin my own yarn and to weave. I also love video games, writing, and watching reality TV competitions...Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, Cake Boss: Next Great Baker, Fashion Show, Top Chef, Worst Cooks in America, Chopped, etc., etc. I'm a sucker for pretty much anything on Bravo (except Housewives, haha).

Aaand now that I've ranted and raved my introductions...I will leave you all alone. I'm happy to be a part of this group and can't wait to get into some discussions with you all! :D

message 418: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Leighanne (sleighanne) Hello all :]

I'm Leighanne, or Sam, or whatever you want to call me. I'm 21 years old, (soon to be 22 on the 17th of this month) and I'm a college student at the University of South Carolina, majoring in business management. I'll be graduating in December of this year.

I joined goodreads a few months ago I think, and I'm a member of a few other groups, but this group jumped out at me, a chance to connect with other college students who love to read! (Very few of my friends read!)

I'll honestly read just about anything, though I love historical fiction and anything by Stephen King. I have an ENORMOUS TBR pile, but being a student, its hard to find the time.

A little more about me: I've been with my current boyfriend almost 3 years. I used to do freelance photography, and I still love it, I love music and I love going to concerts (Been to Warped Tour 7 years in a row) and I like to sleep (when I can).

Anyway, I hope to have some awesome conversation and make some new friends!

message 420: by Carissa (new)

Carissa Hi all! I'm Carissa from the small town of Washougal, WA (just east of Portland!). I'm a biology:pre-vet major at the University of Montana-Western, and I'm 19 years old. I ride horses competively for my college team, love to have a good time and can't read enough books!
I'll read basically anything, not real picky.

message 421: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Just found this group via a friend and saw some interesting topics.

I'm barely in the my 20s (turn 29 on the 19th of this month), and I finished graduate school a couple of years ago (undergrad in Chinese and Japanese history and grad school for Law).

Now that school is done and I'm in the "I'm in an overpopulated profession and don't have a real job," group, I have a lot of time to read. I'm enjoying getting through almost anything I want to read.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

message 422: by Liz (new)

Liz Hello! I'm new to this group & look forward to getting to know everyone here. I've been on goodreads for the last few years, but didn't discover the groups until last year.

I'm from California & am married with one child. I graduated from college in 2006 & have taken some continuing education classes since then (namely photography). I love to learn, & I love to read! I'm excited to join this group - it looks like a fun one!

Nathan- Law and Chinese and Japanese? What a combination! What made you choose to get your degree in those areas?

message 424: by Jess (new)

Jess Hi everyone! My name is Jess, brand new member (as of like 15 minutes ago I think...). I enjoy reading, but I have a hard time getting into books sometimes, I get busy, or bored of the story, but I'm hoping that joining a group and having someone to talk to about the books I read will help me read more often.

I graduated college in 2007, I live in MA, I'm 26, and I'm playing with the idea of eventually going back for more school, I just can't decide for what yet. I'm also bogged down with student loans, so having money to go back to school would help.

I've been a member of Goodreads for a while, but not active. I also love watching movies and watching tv shows (currently re-watching Six Feet Under as I've been sick for the past week and gotten through most of the series, and before that I re-watched Gilmore Girls). I also play video games, I grew up playing Nintendo with my grampa.

message 425: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (crazylilcuban) I don't think I've introduced myself before because I've mostly been kind of lurking around the group -- I work in a law firm and last year was a crazy busy year for me -- but now that things have calmed down at work, I wanted to jump in and join the fun.

My name is Jessica, I'm 23 and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (in the East Bay). I graduated from Cal State Long Beach in 2009 with my B.A. in Political Science and I'm heading to law school in the fall (though I don't know where yet). I've really started trying to be active with Goodreads in the last few months and, now that I have more free time, I'm also trying to read a lot more.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and chatting about books with you all! :)

message 426: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Hello everyone! My name is Andrea. I'm new to this group and Goodreads. I'm from Prague, the Czech Republic. I'm 22, international relations major & in my senior year. I like reading, learning foreign languages, music, movies etc. Just wanted to say hi :)

message 430: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Hi Everyone! My name is Jackie and I live in Texas. I have been on Goodreads for a couple of months and just love it!! I'm still finding my way around the site and wasn't really sure what groups were. So this is my first group and I look forward to meeting new people, learning new books and having fun. Anyways, I just wanted to say "Morning!" :)

message 431: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (ch1one) Hi all. My name is Caite. I'm currently a junior in college and only a reader of textbooks. My New Year's resolution is to get back into reading for pleasure. There used to never be a day where I didn't have a book in hand and now I've gone months without picking up my "to read" books.

I'm glad to have found a college group that has monthly read books =)

Currently I'm working on Dracula, probably followed by Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches, then if i can muster the energy the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.... or I might just stick with ya'lls monthly reads list ;-)

I like to read almost anything really, but feel that I'm stuck in the "young adult" section. I would like some more serious books to read.

Sorry that this intro is a little disorganized, that's sorta the state my brain is in =)

Cj *Jumps into the group*
Well, good evening everyone.
My name is Cj; comes from Carlos Joaquin.
I originally come from Peru in latin america, but am studying right now in germany. I love novels of many different kinds.
I've read most John Irving novels, so you could say he's my fave. (I personally wouldn't though)
Neil Gaiman's and Andrew Davidson's work inspire me in every day life and I think they'd rather fit in the category of favourite author.

message 435: by Jen (last edited Jan 21, 2011 10:59PM) (new)

Jen Hi everyone. I'm Jen, I'm from New Jersey. I go to school (majoring in Broadcasting) full time and work full time. I'm doing a bunch of challenges right now ("1,000,000 pages in a lifetime", "100 books in 2011") and I'm trying to get involved with a bunch of other groups in order to discover new books and authors, and hopefully motivate me to read enough to achieve my goals. I have a hard time describing favorite books & authors, so I'll just say: if you're interested, check out my shelves! Anyway, I hope to read at least one group read in February and look forward to discussing it.

message 436: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (lindsayl) Hello, group! My name is Lindsay, I'm 20 and a full-time student. I work at an embroidery shop and nanny on the side. I love to read and do my best to fit it into my schedule. I didn't want to shoot too high, so it's my goal to finish 60 books in 2011. :)

Charm | 5 comments Hi everybody! My name is Charmaine, and I'm currently a college student just finishing my general classes. I was not an avid reader when I was younger, but I'm trying to spend more of my free time with books. I'm pretty eclectic, but I really enjoy historical, mystery, fantasy, and young adult novels. I'm really interested in reading some good books, so I hope this group can recommend me some! :D

Marina (clinglikedust) | 3 comments Hello! My name's Marina and I'm eighteen years old. I'm a freshman in community college here in New Jersey. My major is technically Liberal Arts, though when I transfer, I plan on changing my major to English or Literature (maybe even Creative Writing if I'm feeling daring...)

I absolutely love college so far, and I love to read. I just received an Amazon Kindle as a Christmas present and its one of the best gifts I've gotten in a really long time! I always have my nose in a book, and I love, love, love to read. I have always wanted to be part of a book club, and this one seems like my best bet! I look forward to participating in this club. I really enjoy discussing books with others and I relish the opportunities I have to do it!

message 442: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (annadevika) Hello! My name is Stacey, and I'm a book-a-holic. I guess I should tell you all a bit about myself... Well, I recently finished my Bachelor's degree (in English) in December 2010. Now I'm out in the working world, hoping to find a job in the publishing industry. In the meantime I've started a website for freelance editing to try to gain some experience until I am situated in an office.

I joined this group in the hopes that I might make some new friends. I had a pretty difficult discussion with my father last night, and he said I need to get out more, make new friends, and do more stuff. I'm not athletic, and I can't find any book clubs in my city that are for people my age, so I thought an online option will at least start me off. I am thinking about starting a book club though.

Let's see, what else can I say about myself? Oh, I also have a foodblog that is going really well! I'm getting way more views than I ever thought I would. My hobbies include reading (obviously), cooking/baking, yoga, skating (I'm just starting), among other things.

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell! I'm going to try to stop on my way home tonight and get one of the February reads and see if I can't catch up for this month's discussion.

So yes... Hello!

message 443: by Chellebcool (new)

Chellebcool I sympathize with your book club situation. Book clubs in my area did not accept people under 30. I thought that was rude. You should totally start your own! I was chicken and started a book blog. But it's been really fun and exposed me to a lot great people and new books!

A book blog sounds interesting! You should send me the URL, I'd love to take a look!

And after talking with my mum and a coworker who is over 35, I've decided I am going to start my own book club. I was afraid of offending anyone over 35, but so far the people I've talked to who are older say they think it's a great idea. So yay!

Hiya,
Okay, so my name's Esme, an official adult as of last month. I'm a certifiably insane, aspiring psychiatrist. I live in Manhattan, and I'm a senior in high school. I'm a full fledged nerd who works her ass off, so I'm currently in my third year of pre-med at Columbia University. My major is medicine (speciality psychiatry) and my minor is psychology. They're pretty darn close, I know. I take alot of English electives in high school though, as in 6/8 classes.
I do competitive cheer, pom pon (which is a sport!!!), track and play horrible tennis.
I just recently got engaged to the sexiest man on earth who I've been lucky to have since 8th grade. And I'm going crazy with wedding plans.
I have six brothers and three guy cousins who are all older and it totally sucks.

I stumbled on this site through a friend of a friend of a frind. And I love meeting new people, I can talk several ears off at once, and I'm known for my undying optimism. So if you're bored or having a crappy day, talk to me!
I love to read, and read every and anything I can get my hands on. Like, seriously anything. Obviously that's why I'm here.
And I for one think Calculus is the stupidest subject in the world. Maybe that's just because I've been working on the same problem for the past hour and cant get the right answer. Sigh...
Oh, and I love bookclubs.

Well... I'm going to definitely have to disagree with this statement, since I'm a mathematician and all haha. However, if you have any questions about this stuff you can send me a message and I can try to help. The only thing I was ever just so so with was the topic of Optimization, other than that I pretty much got A's on everything. Optimization is pretty weird the first time you see it anyway. What topic are you working on?

And welcome to the group.

Nice, that's right before getting into Calc II material. I was tutoring people on Calc II stuff today. That level of math can get quite confusing in certain areas. I noticed some students had trouble with Series and Trigonometric substitution. What level of Calculus do you have to go up to?
