Sashana- Do you have a college picked out yet?"
Hey Kimberly thanks for the welcome. My ultimate goal is to go to college out of state but I know it’s really expensive. I would love to attend a large university but I’ll apply to some smaller ones as well. So far my top choices are Florida State University, University of North Florida, Nova South-Eastern University, University of Central Florida, University of Washington (Seattle campus) Seattle University, Spellman…The list goes on and on and on.

Paranormal romance sounds interesting! Any titles you suggest?

Hey Dayna, welcome. I would really love to work in the editing/publishing field also. What would you have to major in to do that?

Well, I'm not an expert on it but at least in Canada, there isn't one particular major that's needed for the editing/publishing field. I think a lot start as English majors though! Also, in Canada there are a couple of universities that offer certificate programs in publishing, so that's a way to get a more formal education in the field. Apparently experience (ie. through internships, etc.) is really valuable in this industry.

I'm going back to school for another degree. I just started last year and I should graduate (for the 2nd time in May of 2011). My first degree is in Finance/Accounting and Economics. I worked in that industry for a while, but I really didn't like it at all. So I started teaching myself mathematics and now I'm majoring in Applied Mathematics & Physics. It's intense, but it's way more interesting. I'll probably go right on to get my Master's once I finish this, not sure if I will do Applied Math or Physics... or both.
I like reading a lot of science fiction, various non-fiction books on math and physics, philosophy books and things on science in general. I also like fantasy and things like that.

Thanks for the info, Danya.

In my spare time, I like doing anything music related, whether its listening to my favourite bands/artists, writing, or playing music. I also love to read realistic fiction novels (although I do enjoy Harry Potter quite a bit). My favourite author of all time is John Green.
Nice to meet you all. :)

Apart from this i'm studying B.TECH(electronics and communicational engineering) to be graduated in one year.... When my semester exams are arraived i usually stop reading for 1 or 2 months and when in holidays usually i complete 2 books a week....I used to store cuttings of stories and books which i like most...I usually get anger on my friends when they do not return my favourite books as they lend books to read... That's all about me.....thank you....

About me: I'm 27, originally from Ohio, but I've just moved to Pittsburgh, via Albany via Boston via Rochester. I finished my undergraduate in 2005, but I've been taking classes here and there ever since and plan to return for a second degree in 2011. I'm hoping I still count as a college student? Maybe?
I've always loved reading, but for the past three years (before I moved) I worked in an independent bookstore and took a few English classes at a local university, and I definitely went from casual reader to obsessive book nut in that time. In the few weeks since I have moved and left all that, I've been feeling pretty book (and book talk) deprived. I'm quickly discovering that, with book blogs, GoodReads, and LibraryThing, I can get my fill. I've been trying to be more active on my own blog, Erin Reads, too.
I love fiction, YA, memoir, travel writing, and audiobooks best. I am trying to get myself to read more classics and some nonfiction as well. I tend to prefer gorgeous writing and realistic characters to insane plots.
Hm, so that's me! I'm happy to be here, I hope I still qualify, and I look forward to talking books with all of you!

As of now am putting up in India, looking forward to some pleasant conversations.

Welcome!

I read predominantly non fiction, but I do find that from time to time I have to read a few popular books so that I can keep up with what all my friends and neighbors are talking about.

i am monaliza marcelo, a college student here in the philippines, i am 18 years old taking up Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and in my third year.
i love to read, fictions are my favorites, and even during my busy days in schools and duty hours, i somehow manage to squeeze reading during breaks and library hours...
aside from reading, i love to help people, i take my neighbors blood pressure and make a health plan and teaching for them, and that helps me too, i get to know people well and i get to practice my skills from them..
i hope to be friends with you all.. thanks

This year has been all about the classics for me, and lately I have been getting into nautical tales.

I am a full time sophomore in college, and I work two part time jobs. I just got my drivers license last summer (I put off learning to drive for a few years, but I don't regret it, I think less 16 year olds should be on the road).
Anyway, I am currently reading 4 books, I start too many at once, but when reading books, I do actually finish them. I have a few favorite authors that I will read anything they write, but I will take recommendations for new books too, I like reading new types of books since every author is different.

I consider myself an Eclectic Pagan, after years of religious research. Right now, I'm in college trying to raise my GPA so that I can get into the Nursing program next year. After completing the program, I want to transfer to a college that offers an RN to MSN program, so that I can be a midwife, which has been my dream for almost 10 years.
I'm sort of an open book about my opinions and things, and I love meeting new people who share a common interest with me. If anyone decides that they want to get to talk sometimes or something, feel free to send me a message or something. Sorry this got so long!

Steven- wow, Thailand. That sounds fantastic. I hope you've enjoyed your time there.
Welcome to the group both of you!"
yes.. uh actually it's different when you study here in the philippines

Madison- is there a particular school you want to go to for nursing?

I'm Melissa, I am currently in limbo with school and classes. My husband is in the Air Force and I had to stop taking classes in Colorado when we moved to Ohio. I was taking classes at a university near by but the school's physics program and rotations of classes didn't fit with our time period here. So right now I am not taking classes and I am not enjoying that. I am currently working on mt BSorA in physics. I am not planning on using my degree in physics moving so much, so I am planning on getting a masters in Library Science. I worked in a library for 9 years in Colorado and loved every minute of it. We have a few more months here in Ohio while my husband finished up his masters and we should be finding out soon where we will be moving to next.
I love reading all sorts of books. Some of my favorite authors are Margaret Atwood, Alice Hoffman, and J.K. Rowling. I love re-reading books and listening to books on cd. I have a huge problem with buying books. If I don't stop we are going to go over our moving weight limit. ;-)

I love reading all sorts of books but mostly enjoy mysteries and historical fiction. I love to sing and read (of course) and hope to get into forensic anthropology...maybe. :D

I am glad to have joined this group and everything about here just seems to be so nice and welcoming.
My name is Ildar, I am a former student of Philology at CSU, a university in Russia. Being unemployed right now I spend some of my time reading and self-studying.
I am a fan of English-language literature - classic and modern. My favorite writers are Jonathan Coe, Zadie Smith, Salman Rushdie, Nick Hornby; Paul Auster, Chuck Palahniuk, Jack Kerouac. I also like Charles Dickens and Herman Melville very much. It's not the whole list, however. My dream is to sink my teeth into works of David Foster Wallace someday and the likes.
This day I spent so much time reading other people's book reviews (which activity I enjoy)before finding this group. I like to learn about other people's reception of different books (preferably the ones I read myself); to discuss various matters, meet new people, and enlarge my experience in general.
I am open to new acquaintances. Feel free to contact me.
yours, warmly, Ildar Valeyullin.
P.S. my age is 23(just forgot to say it in the beginning).

My hobbies include reading (mostly nonfiction), writing, occasionally painting, and drinking beer. :) I work in the home services market in a position that doesn't require a college education, but remain because self-employment is much preferred to sitting in a cubicle somewhere answering phones, IMO.
My spare time is partly dedicated to volunteering in the local peace-building, interfaith community raising awareness on issues ranging from corporate dominance of society to organic agriculture and sustainability. We show films to acquaint people with these topics along with participating in other forms of activism.
Music speaks to my soul and is an important part of each and every day.
Thanks and I look forward to interacting with others in this group! :)

Hope you enjoy our group!

Welcome! :) Since you are a psychology major, have you ever read the works of Dr. Thomas S. Szasz? He has an interesting book comparing the modern mental health movement with the Inquisition, discussing how both were intended to root out dissidence and questioning who gets to decide what is "normal" for the rest? You might appreciate it, if only as food for thought in looking at the mental health movement from a historical perspective.
Peace be with you!

I live in San Francisco. I go to state college, majoring in both cinema and English. I'm 19, female, bi-ethnic, and ambisexual. I'm hoping to rekindle my love for reading, improve my writing, expand my vocabulary and become an involved intellectual.

I'm 19 and majoring in communications & business. I love to read, but unfortunately don't have much time. Or much space in the backpack for that matter. I read just about everything depending on the time of year or how stressed out I am. Looking forward to seeing what others are reading and maybe getting some suggestions on what to read now that I am on break and will finally have time to read again!
