I'm Chrissy, 22 and from Chicago. I'm technically not a college student anymore because I graduated two weeks ago(eek!). The upside is I now have a lot more time to read for enjoyment, so I figured I'd join this group to have people to discuss all my literary adventures with. No one else in my house is as voracious a reader as I am, so it gets kinda lonely.
My favorite book of all time is The Phantom Tollbooth. I'm pretty sure it's the only book I've reread. Ever.
The book that has most recently made an impression on me was The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri. I really like short story/essay collections and this one just took my breath away.
Other random things: I was an economics major in college, but wish I had discovered my passion for sexuality and women's studies earlier so I could have made those my majors. I also dance. A lot. I was trained in jazz/tap/ballet, but now I mostly prefer hip-hop and bhangra.
The end. Yay!

Well, I am 24 and just completed my second year of my Bsc although I already another one (long story!). Obviously love reading and finally have the time to actually get stuck into a few books. right now I'm reading The Purple Hibiscus and its pretty good going so far! I'll also be joining in on the monthly reads too.
Will be great to get to know you guys!

I'm slowly but surely making my way through a lot of book lists on listsofbests.com which is great because I love challenges and it's giving me clear goals of what to read. It's also forcing me to read books I haven't because I just didn't think they were very "me" when in actuality, they SO are!
The rest of my time this summer will be (hopefully) spent volunteering at my hometown's professional theatre company. Yay for future internship references!

Welcome Jenny!! My boyfriend is the same way. He just doesn't get how I can sit for hours and read! lol

Here is a link to my blog if you're interested: http://www.englishmajorjunkfood.com

Iowa's English program is fun, don't you think? I loved it. Good luck!

I hope I'm gonna like this group :)
Welcome Britt! I'm pretty sure you will like this group! Just jump into discussions and you'll make friends in no time! :)

My name is Steph and I'm originally from New York, went to HS in Boston, go to college in Atlanta, and right now I am in Barcelona for 10 weeks - so, I'm kind of all over the place.
I'm a computer science major so, I love to read as an escape after a lot of coding and what not. I love fiction, usually about women, that I can get lost in.
I've got plenty of time to read in Spain and my kindle that gives me access to a bunch of books (in English!) so I've been searching for some new stuff to read. Some of my most memorable and influencial reads are A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith, Beloved by Toni Morrison and The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway.
Love what I've seen in this group thus far, can't wait to see which books yall recommend!

I'm not an english major... but I'm a French major! with education. I'm pretty excited about it, I get to go France soon!
Anywho, I love books and I'm in college so I thought I would join your group! Hello :)

I just recently joined goodreads.com thanks to a coworker's recommendation!

Kaitlyn- Another Utahn! We seem to have a lot of them around here. :)

I just found this group and being a reader, I'm looking forward to joining!

My name is Jacob, I'm 20 years old and currently pursuing my BS in Economics(Econometrics to be specific) at a university in Michigan. I love to read(obviously), play/watch sports, billiards, rock and roll, and so on. My favorite books are classic literature and fiction(especially science fiction of the Vonnegut variation). My favorite books would include, A Clockwork Orange, Sirens of Titan, The Gun Seller, Fight Club, and many many more.
Looking forward to talking to you all, discussing and sharing opinions.
Cheers.

Anyway... I'm Sarah. I'm 21, from Houston. I'm going to be a senior this fall, double majoring in philosophy and anthropology.
Some of my favorite books are...
-The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
-Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson
-Confessions of a Pagan Nun by Kate Horsley
-Lamb by Christopher Moore
And I also like reading books by Karen Armstrong, Hermann Hesse, and Marya Hornbacher.
Welcome Sarah!! We read The Handmaid's Tale I think back in December for our group read. I didn't get a chance to read it with the group but I have it on my shelf hoping to read it sometime soon!

Some of my favourite books:
- Dune, Frank Herbert
- The Life of Pi, Yann Martel
- The Foundation Trilogy, Isaac Asimov
- The Shadow of the Wind, Carlos Ruiz Zafon
- Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card
Anyway, I'm really keen on expanding my tastes, so any recommendations are more than welcome!

And I'm an English major too! I know what you mean, I can't imagine doing anything else despite the fact that people tried to talk me into more "practical" majors.
