Celeste (msgenialbookworm) | 4 comments Hello! I'm Celeste and I'm a brand new member of GoodReads and The College Students group! I just started WVU last fall. I'm 19. I'm super excited about being able to read books and discuss them with a group because there aren't a whole lot of readers in Morgantown, WV.

I'm an English major with a concentration in Professional Writing and Editing so I can become a book editor and have a job where I can read up and coming books all day and edit them! My two favorite things... :)

I'm super excited about this group. Off to read!!!!

Celeste you are doing the same as me! I'm an English major, I'm hoping to work as an editor for a publishing company. Wouldn't that be the best job?

Totally!!! I'm so excited. I want to get through college and start now.

Allison Bailey (bookishinmpls) Hi! I am Allison and I am graduating from Sweet Briar College this May. I am 22, a biology major, and starting at UMD to get a MEd so I can teach high school science. I am doing my first book challenge, and it is even more fun than I thought it would be! My all time favorite books are the Alanna series from T. Pierce, Harry Potter, and Wuthering Heights, but I have quite a few more favorites on my page.

message 208: by Meg (new)

Meg (aurawn) | 44 comments Hi everyone! I'm Meg, I'm 21, and I'm just finishing up my junior year at Providence College. I'm an English major, History minor, and my dream is to be a librarian... hopefully within the next five years! I love reading and am always in the middle of at least two books (in addition to whatever I'm reading for classes.) I'm challenging myself to read 100 books this year and am currently at 38, so I have a lot of reading to do this summer when I'm on break! My favorite books change constantly, but right now I'd have to say Good Omens by Neil Gaiman/Terry Pratchett, the Thursday Next books by Jasper Fforde, Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore, and The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.

I'm super excited to find this group - it's nice to see all these other college students that actually read for fun!

message 213: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 4 comments Hey all, I'm Kristie, 20, originally from Virginia but going to a small liberal arts school in Central Pennsylvania. I'm a wildlife conservation major and vaguely considering minoring in Russian, although I'm thinking I want to study it on my own time. Whenif I grow up, I want to save the planet, although I'm thinking the whole barista by day, starving writer by night is looking pretty good about now (at least it'll get me out of taking any more chemistry). Aside from loving literature and nature, I'm big into music, photography, movies, art, animal collecting, and vintage/indie things. Genre-wise, I'll read almost anything, though I seem to favor the classics and Southern lit.

Looking forward to being a part of this group. :)

message 216: by Seth (new)

Seth Frederiksen | 11 comments Hi there! Name's Seth, though people just call me...Seth.

I've written a novel titled "The Norsemen's Saga: The Lion Awakens" following a young man as he becomes a warrior and a king.

I live in NC, but I'm originally from California. I'm attending university at NCSU and currently work at the Home Depot, which is currently reminding me of why I write and why I'm in college.

message 217: by Seth (new)

Seth Frederiksen | 11 comments Van Nuys, i literally lived across the street from the airport.

Which department did you work in?

message 218: by Seth (new)

Seth Frederiksen | 11 comments Lumber and Building Materials, I deal with dead trees and retarded dust.

I'm currently attending NCSU to get my degree in History to hopefully be a park ranger.

Oh, and Van Nuys is right next door to L.A., in the San Fernando Valley, mapwise that should help, but I wouldn't recommend going there, it's not all L.A. is cracked up to be.

message 219: by Seth (new)

Seth Frederiksen | 11 comments It was a sort of various reasons, but you are right that I did move out here to get the residency tuition instead of paying out of state.

L.A. was becoming a literal dirt/crap/hell hole, I was hoping to get into UNC: Chapel Hill, but life (and the university's red tape) threw me for a loop, and I'm a Civil War buff.

So NC kinda served my purposes better than CA was doing at the time.

And I have to say Northern CA is better that Southern CA, not a big fan of deserts and bland scenery.

Paula | 101 comments Seth wrote: "I was hoping to get into UNC: Chapel Hill..."

Yay another Person from NC!
I'm originally from Durham, and I'm currently at school at UNCW.

I was also hoping to get into UNC, but I got waitlisted, and I had to make a decision before I would have heard from them. jerks.

message 222: by Seth (new)

Seth Frederiksen | 11 comments First time I sent a application they told me I didn't have enough classes under my belt to be even considered, and when that problem was dealt with they moved the transcripts to the end of April, and my classes didn't end until the beginning of May.

So I've decided to give NCSU my attention and work on my B.A. there.

message 223: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (morgasbord) I am brand new to Goodreads after a friend mentioned it to me. I'm slowly falling in love with it. I've made a recent decision to start reading a lot more. When I was younger, I read all the time, but I think during my first year of high school I stopped reading for pleasure. I did occasionally, but not as much as I would have liked to. So now that I'm a sophomore in college (well, rising junior), I'm making much more of an effort to read for pleasure again.

What I think I like about Goodreads is the opportunity to discuss what you've read, which I am finding is incredibly important. If you read something (or see something or listen to something, any experience) without talking about it, I think you lose a degree of appreciation and understanding.

I read A LOT of plays, so right now, I'm really trying to stick to novels (fiction or non-fiction), but I think in about a month I'll be ready to start reading two plays a week once more.

Oh, and since this is all about introductions: Hello! My name is Morgan, and I'm a rising junior at Florida State University. I'm studying theatre with a possible double major in Women's Studies. AND I will be studying in London for the fall semester!

message 224: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments Welcome Morgan! Another Floridian :) I am so jealous about London!!!

message 225: by Andrew (last edited May 17, 2010 05:25PM) (new)

Andrew (andrewjross) Hey! I'm Andrew from Maryland. I'm finishing up my junior year at University of MD Baltimore County studying gerontology. I love to read as much as possible and as much variety as possible. My favorite book is probably The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. If you haven't read it, I highly (!!!) recommend it!

Looking forward to discussing books with all of you after finals end! Good luck to all of you finishing your semesters!

message 226: by Rachael (new)

Rachael (decemberparis) Hi everyone. I've been temped to write an intro for a little while now, and for some reason now struck me as the time. Who knew?

Anyways, my name is Rachael, and I'm from Western Mass. I'm right now inbetween colleges, I'm 20, and I'm a sociology major.

As far as reading, I tend to pick an author and go wild with their works for a few years. I just got done with Kurt Vonnegut and am on Hans Fallada (who I'm quickly am finding that nobody's ever heard about, such a shame).

Hopefully I'll be able to share some of my favorite reads and get some great new suggestions!

message 227: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments Welcome both of you! Andrew, what is gerontology?

message 228: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (andrewjross) Glad you asked! Gerontology is the study of the elderly and the aging population. The Boomers (our parents) are changing how Americans age. Expect lots of changes between our grandparents' generation and our parents' generation regarding how aging is perceived.

message 229: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments Ah, that makes sense...as in geriatrics. That's interesting!

message 230: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Welcome to all of you!!

Morgan- Yay! Another theatre student! Theatre is my minor. :)

Andrew- I think your degree sounds really interesting!

Rachel- I've only read one of Kurt Vonnegut's books so far, Slaughter House Five, but I loved it.

Snickers- I love the username!

Seth- I know what you mean about crappy jobs reminding you why you are in college. :-P Been there done that.

message 231: by Shadazz (new)

Shadazz Hi. This is Adela, from outside Mexico City, on the first year of an English Literature Major at UNAM.

I was already some sort of devoted reader before getting into College, yet it was like swimming with the head sticking out of the water, missing out the reefs, and coral and fauna that you can only see by diving.

I also like swimming, as you may guess. Water related activities. Images, as in movies and photography.

message 232: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin | 39 comments Hi, I'm Caitlin, from Louisville, KY. I AM an English major, returning to school after a three year hiatus to do the marriage and baby thing :).

My husband doesn't read much due to an eyes-not-scanning-together problem (I'm not exactly sure what that would be called..), and the reading he does is of music... What can ya do? :) So, I'm dying for some book people, as all of my former book people are scattered across the country being grown ups with jobs and such.

I joined this group because it's the first one that seems to match me tastes, and that is beyond awesome! I've already added a ton to my TBR list from scanning posts from this group, and I'm excited to get to know some of you! Feel free to friend me, although i've yet to determine the point of that....

Hello! I'm Denise, 21 year-old from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, soon to be moving to Austin. I'm a Spanish major at the University of Texas.

I try to read as much as possible when school work lets me. Hope to have fun discussing books with everyone.

Welcome Denise! I contemplated majoring in Spanish back when I was in high school. I chose business instead. I probably should have done a Spanish minor looking back.

Glad to have you in our group!

message 236: by Nafiza (new)

Nafiza Hello! I'm 26. A literature major (well, I was a Biology major but then one day, when I was sitting in a class about Fungi, I decided that this was certainly not for me). I'm from Fiji originally but have been in Canada for the last nine years. And I like pineapple. :)

message 244: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Hi everyone!

I'm Jackie, 21 (22 in a 6 days but who's counting!). I just graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in English. Go figure haha. I joined the site a couple months ago but just stumbled upon this one, read a couple of posts, and liked it a lot. I don't know a lot of peeps ( except my english peeps) that I can talk about books with and they're like my favorite thing! Any other questions I'm an open book, no pun intended...well yea it was actually. ;D

message 247: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (okpurplebutterfly) Hello!

I'm Liz, 18 and I'm currently attending WOSC (Western Oklahoma State College) with my major being liberal arts (I plan to transfer in the future). I then plan on majoring in either History or English Education (I have yet to choose which one, but I do want to teach).

I just happen to find this group when I added a friend. I love it so far!

message 248: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (classyfied) Hey, I'm Rachel! I'm 20 and I'm currently at student at Virginia Tech. I'm double majoring in computer science and math with a minor in physics. Even though everyone thinks of me as a "science mind," I love reading, foreign languages, history, music, art, etc. Unfortunately the amount I read leisurely has been decreasing since middle school but I'm starting to get back on track with the help of goodreads and my nook :).

Sonia | 1 comments Hello =) My name is Sonia. I'm 19.
I just joined this website recently. I live in Oregon. I just finished my first year of college at PCC (Portland community college), transferring to Portland State in the fall.
As far as things i'm interested in, I like : Books, photography, unhealthy food, clothing, the occasional movie, writing, talking, listening, music, and not being outside in the rain.
College is lonely.
