Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Hi Caitlin! Welcome to the group! So what made you choose to get your associates in that particular area?

Welcome Caitlin!!

message 153: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin I was considering doing medical or veterinary, so I figured science would work better just in case I changed my mind. Plus, I'm more interested in the research part (hence science) of psychology than the communication part (arts). Psychology is just something I've been really interested in and excel at.

Alexa | 4 comments Helllooo, I'm Alexa and I'm a freshman in college! I'm majoring in Environmental Studies & have no idea what I'm going to pursue after graduation. Mmm other than that, I'm super interested in Native American philosophies, humpback whales, & Indian food. I watch a lot of movies, read a lot of books, and listen to a lot of music!! That's about it. Oh, and I currently live in Washington, DC but I am originally from southern Georgia. And this seemed like a cool place to find out about some new titles.

message 155: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Hi Alexa! Welcome to the group! So you are from southern Georgia but you now live in Washington, what made you move there? Was it because of the University you wanted to go to?

message 156: by Alexa (new)

Alexa | 4 comments Well, my county is sorta a black hole, no one ever leaves, and I couldn't stand it. But now I kinda miss it. Haha. But I like D.C. okay, and the opportunities here are amazing, but after I graduate I will probably move wayyy out of the city!

Welcome Alexa!! Now I'm hungry for Indian food! lol. I bet the city was a big change from where you used to live. I used to live in a county that sounded alot like that. Nobody ever leaves. A black hole is a good way to describe it. lol

message 158: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Elizabeth Welcome Alexa! LOL Sounds just like me. I'm from right near DC, but now I live in New York. And I miss driving, and I miss big open spaces, and I miss back highways, and lakes, and everything that isn't in a huge city. I told my roommate the other day that when I graduate I'm leaving the city and moving to the country, and she laughed. lol :)

message 159: by Alexa (new)

Alexa | 4 comments Haha nooo I understand completely! I just want to live in a big field now with chickens. Somewhere where there isn't any snow either, cause DC is working on its second blizzard in a week, and I haven't had class since friday morning of last week!

message 160: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Ha, it's kinda the same way here. We have a mix, because I live near a military base we have lots of military families that move in and stay for just a few months and then move again. Then we have the rest of us. I graduated high school with most of my first grade classmates. Most of them are at universities in state. I only know of a couple of them that went out of state.

message 161: by Alexa (new)

Alexa | 4 comments Yeah, that's pretty much how it was where I am from. I went to elementary school with everyone, but I was the only one to leave the state for college.

message 162: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Yay you're back!!! We were worried about you! I love that you used a Japanese name, that's pretty cool. Hmmm... I wonder what my name would be...

YAY!!!! We were very concerned about you!!! Glad to have you back! You were definitely missed!!

message 164: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Hi everyone! My name is Alyssa and I live in New York. Not the city, the boring upstate part unfortunately. I'm 19 and I'll be 20 on March 1. I go to a relatively small private college in New York, only about 30 minutes from my house. I don't really like the school. Too small and not diverse enough for me, so I'm thinking of transferring, but we'll see :) My major is accounting, but I'm starting to not like that either. I'm pretty unsure about most aspects of my life, but that's what being a young adult is all about right! haha.

I have a dog, named Romeo, he's a maltese and I love him lots. I also have a beta fish, Pharfignewton, who is currently looking like he's close to death. I hate hate hate snow, I think that has something to do with having lived in Arizona until I was 5. My childhood was kind of tough at times and reading has always been an escape for me. I love reading but have a hard time finding the time to do so lately. I also love to write. This was my first year participating in NaNoWriMo, and although I didn't hit the 50,000 word mark, I got pretty close and realized how much I enjoy writing.

I've been reading all the updated threads on here over the past few weeks and you all seem like such interesting and nice people so I'm very excited to be in this group :)

Kelly A. | 499 comments Welcome Alyssa! I like your fish's name :)

message 166: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Welcome Alyssa! I had a beta fish when I was younger, they live forever! How in the world did you choose a name like that? It's pretty awesome.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Welcome Alyssa!! I agree, your fish's name is awesome!

message 168: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa haha thank you. my roommate bought 2 beta fish last year and named them Pinky and The Brain, so i googled other characters from the show and Pharfignewton was the best by far. I like to call him Pharffy for short :)

Allie :: literarilythrilling (literarilythrilling) Hi, I'm Allie! 23 year old early ed major in TN. School is my life but I throw in reading as often as possible. I also enjoy movies, knitting, music and all that good stuff. I plan on getting my masters in educating children who are Deaf one day.

I love reading. I love talking about books to people. And I love reading books that I never thought I would read. So...I thought I'd join =]

Sophie (officersophie) | 5 comments Hi everyone, I'm Sophie and I live in Nova Scotia.I'm 19, working on a B.Sc. and that pretty much consumes most of my time, however I do try and get in a few good books when I can. I LOVE reading. Too much maybe. I'm reeeeally looking forward to summer break and I fully intend on spending every second of every day reading on the beach and partying all night. I stumbled upon this group the other night while I was procrastinating and I fell in love with the Spring/Summer 2010 challenge and had to join!
To sum it all up, I'm really looking forward to contributing and getting to know everyone.

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Welcome Sophie! I can completely understand what you mean about looking forward to summer reading (I think we all can). What's your favorite genre?

message 176: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (officersophie) | 5 comments I don't really have any specific favourite genre, I just enjoy well-written books in general. However, I do tend to avoid romance novels, chick lit, and crime novels. How about yourself?

I mostly read fantasy and historical fiction, but I'll read just about anything.

Allie :: literarilythrilling (literarilythrilling) Thanks for the welcomes! I'm really excited about this Spring/Summer challenge. I've already got half my list figured out!

Emily (seeemzread) Hello! I'm Emily... I'm a friend/coworker of Tahleen's and she told me I should join this group, so I did. What can I say? I love to read, that's why I work at a bookstore, haha. Anyway, Tahleen was telling me about this Challenge that's starting soon and it sounds wicked fun, so I'm off to check that out... hope to make some friends here! :)

message 182: by Eden (new)

Eden (gardenofedee) Hey everyone! I'm new!

My name is Eden and I'm from a small town in South Central Pennsylvania. I'm a junior at Penn State University majoring in Math with a teaching option (I get a math degree and teacher certification...) but at least once a week I question why I didn't become and English Lit major...

My favorite book is Harry Potter followed by Paper Towns by John Green and To Kill a Mockingbird. I tend to read a lot of Young Adult Fiction but I'm trying to make my way through the classics.

I kept a book blog all last year about everything I read but got bored with it so I'm trying Good Reads instead. I'm looking forward to reading and chatting with you all :)

KC | 2 comments Hello! My name is Kaci (friends call me Dilla). I'm a 20 year old General Studies student in Wyoming. I go to community college now, but I plan on transfering to a new college and a new major in the fall! :) I joined this group because it seems very well organized and the reading list is not so much as to overwhelm me in combonation with my schoolwork. Nice to meet you all!

Prax | 5 comments Hi, I'm cassie from Singapore but I attend school in University of Washington (Seattle). I'm a Freshman intending to study architecture. Ironically, I can't draw very well. Likes music, art and Italian and I'm currently reading Plato's Republic (albeit taking a little longer than I would like it to be haha).

Welcome Cassie! I recently got interested in architecture because of my new internship with two architecture/design magazines--Modernism & Style 1900..have you ever heard of them? I'm still learning so I don't know much when it comes to architecture..but it's nice to have something that piques my interest that I don't know much about!

message 188: by Prax (new)

Gillian (night-shades) | 9 comments Hey everyone! I'm Gill, I'm 19 and go to University of Toronto for Anthropology and Equity Studies. Just finished my first year. I love reading, music, singing, photography, art, travelling, cats, tattoos... and tons of other things I could go on about! I just joined goodreads about a week ago and thought this group looked pretty interesting. I want to get a bunch of reading in this summer because it's so impossible during school, so I thought the group might motivate me to read through as much as possible!

message 194: by Melanie (last edited Apr 09, 2010 06:49AM) (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 32 comments I'm Melanie, 22 y.o., living in Switzerland, and starting a Masters in Criminal Justice this September I was born in Paris from a French dad and an American mother, speak five languages and have a serious book addiction: I read 1-2 books a day, between work my studies, my students and my Italian boyfriend, whom I've been dating for over 3 years...

I'll read anything (but do have a marked preference for happy endings), and fantasy, romance and historical fiction are my faves because they keep me balanced after reading my criminal justice books...
I discovered this site while checking discussions on Amazon a month or so ago, and have gotten hooked... I also (unfortunately for my bank account) have ordered over a hundred books since joining (what with all the recommendations, lol)... Baaaaaaaad!

This group seems great.. I gotta say that not many people at university here have the same love of books as GR members do! It's nice to check out what people my age are reading on the other bank :-)

Welcome Melanie!! 5 languages is super impressive!! And I wish I could read 1-2 books a day. I generally can read one in a day (if I have time) but never two! :)

message 196: by Carly (new)

Carly (karithina) I'm Carly, I'm 19 and live in Australia. I'm currently in my second year of a three year Bachelor of New Media Arts, majoring in Digital Visual Art, at James Cook University in North Queensland (Australia).

I have only just started giving myself time to read a lot more between all of my uni work, in an attempt to give myself more time to relax (last year I was only really reading while in a car, a bus, or any other situation where I hadn't actually set the time aside with other things I could be doing).

I usually spend a lot of time on Goodreads, mainly adding covers for books I own and that I see in my wanderings, fixing up information here and there. I'm about to actually start socialising in groups, so I suppose I'll add this to my list of things I will procrastinate with.

Lecture Recess is coming up next week and I have a pile of books to get through, so I'm hoping this group will be able to motivate me to do that~
